The old motto of this country - and it goes way back - was "Pirates expelled. Commerce restored." Looks like some of the Pirates never got the message. lol.

Did you notice the last names of some of those Governors?
Shirley
Gambier
Dowdeswell
Rawson & others. Many of our streets etc were named after them. I wonder how many kids in School learn this?

Can you pick out some more from the list?

So far, in modern times only Governor Butler had something named after him. Of course Pindling Airport but he was not a Governor.

Also take notice of the last names of Bahamians compared to the last names of Lord Proprietors and Governors. I could explain some of our heritage

Some of the Governors have streets in BAHAMIA in Grand Bahama named after them.

Woodes Rogers Dr.

Ellis Lightfoot Drive

Wentworth Dr.

Chillingsworth Court

Cadwallader Jones Dr.

I wondered where those names came from.

I do concur that 90 is now a Bahamas World Statesmen, he seems to have garnished enough support to become Prime Minister of the Bahamas. :shaky:
