i was on BET.COM and read that Danny Glover is hosting a Bahamas ancestry conference next month this is being held by the ministry of tourism.

I pissed man, how the hell danny glover and a bunch a 'merican people could tell us bout we sef'.

what happened to Pat Rahming who tried to make us all aware of the transatlantic slave trade abolition earlier this year and held an african fair that the ministry of tourism een show up too or the then government did not support.
i learned about my ancestry then , i learned what possible tribe i may have come from. what they did when they were here.

when we ga start appreciating our own.
een no good enough 'Bahamian celebrities around? we have to take a non Bahamian and mix him in our ancestry?

we have to do better

Maybe Danny Glover found out he has Bahamian ancestors and wants to "give back"

May T.G. Glover is his great grand uncle or something.

You know we don't appreciate our own.

No offence to Danny Glover but I know what you mean!

what happened to Pat Rahming who tried to make us all aware of the transatlantic slave trade abolition earlier this year and held an african fair that the ministry of tourism een show up too or the then government did not support.
Mr. Rahming does not get the respect he deserves.

i learned about my ancestry then , i learned what possible tribe i may have come from. what they did when they were here.
Which tribe?

when we ga start appreciating our own.

I am one er them who does vote wid ma "mot control"...I een ger watch they trifflin azzes!

Man that bouy een tink we caribbean people gat no sense! Case in point...he wanted to show case the life of the haitian revolution and he took one big load of "mericans" to act in the ting! Them local people carn act ay? Man he full er shed!

To me he just like the majority of them "afro-mericans" them...they talk afro-centric brotherhood...but een wan none er we "other african" brother in these parts to be apart of they "states africans" brothers. In my radical student days in the student Pan-African movement, we in the depora were clearly aware of that fact!

i agree,
i think generally we are maybe to blame for this lackadaisical attitude in the bahamas .
tempo artists can come here for every event and host because i guess we don't have competent djs or vjs
we have to bring in every shiddy artist and have major concerts but nathan stone people don't know and atlantis don't call for any big event.

this is really sad
it's better in the bahamas but anything foreign is even better

there's another conference happening this month I read it somewhere...was it a tough call article?

but as for Mr. Glover, he's a good guy, a freedom fightter, I dont think its about him teaching you yourself- its moreso an homage to his Bahamian ancestors...MOT is there because that's what they do: market and promote our tourist product (one can only ascertain the thought that Ministry of Culture was there too!)

Lol... now you really believe Min of Tourism there for any other reason than the fact that Danny Glover is famous and has notoriety. When Mr. P. Rahming was pushing the issue that could of led to this same type of interests he barely could of gotten someone from Tourism to read his proposal most likely. Very few ppl that work in Tourism care much for Bahamians, which is not their job to some extent ppl might say. They all about the tourist numbers and Bahamians can find their benefit in it form there on dey own. No lie but I have personally heard ppl from Tourism offices say that they don't like doing things with local Bahamians cuz we always looking fa sumtin free, LOL... It ain't no secret that when the Tourist Offices, abroad that is, have events local Bahamians aren't invited for the most part. But I am convinced that it is because Bahamians have very little confidence or concern for our own. We'll disregard something a Bahamian does or can do until we see a way for ourselves to benefit or experience something that we otherwise would not of been able to. So sad ya just gotta laugh sometimes......

speaking of that it, unnerves me what i uncovered when searching to find out if danny glover has Bahamian roots, it would appear that he just seems interested in the Caribbean in general. and even though the Bahamas is not a part of the Caribbean i think his interest is vested in the rich history of slavery

anyway my point in a conversation yesterday to a friend of mine was that Bahamians don't believe in the bahamas enough to shout it out on the rooftops .

case and point - sidney pwat tey eh - cause thats how he pronounces it now that he is 'merican. it used to poitier but i guess that sounds more exotic.
antyway he was on oprah when he wrote his book measure of a man and he said his parents were was from a small island called cat island and he was born in transition to florida. not i from the bahamas. cat island -who knows where that is everybody in the audience? and yet we so proud of him and sending him to be ambassador and all kinda tings and he een proud a friggin us if someone could tell me one time he went on television and boasted about his country - the bahamas i will retract my statement.. and to prove my point people gatta speculate where he from i have posted this link read the first few lines.
disgrace.....

I've meet Sidney Poitier.

His name is French and the way he pronounces it is correct.

Mine, we at home pronounce it differently, but we do so with most words.

He is VERY proud of his Bahamian heritage and will boast about it in gatherings. He was most please to talk to me about his childhood and the "bush medicine woman" who saved his life as an infant.
