Fred Mitchell IS the spokesperson for the PLP.....

Why do you even take in the stupidity in these Tribguardian editorials.....

This article is mis-leading. This editorial should not have even been printed, because, it is a blatant fudge on the truth; to gain what? Nothing more than political mileage, taking advantage of people who don't have the time to understand that there is more truth to the issues than that of this one silly little writer.

LOL....

SPOKESPERSON NOT A PROBLEM!

BUT THIS IS UNHEARD OF...

According to a press release issued by Al Dillette, Mitchell was said to be in Barbados as the opposition spokesman on foreign affairs "to defend the reputation of the PLP and the Christie administration over the cancellation of Carifesta X."

Speaking to "regional media" in Bridgetown, he was quoted as saying, "I am here today in defence of the Progressive Liberal Party that was up until May 2, 2007, the government of The Bahamas. You will know that the new Free National Movement government of The Bahamas announced in July following the meeting of Heads of Government with the Canadian Prime Minister here in Barbados in July that it would no long honour the commitment made by the Progressive Liberal Party administration to host Carifesta in Nassau. The record will show that this has caused grave concern in the artistic community at home."

Fred Mitchell was also the one who critised Tommy Turnquest for taking a public position against a policy decision of the government of which Mr. Mitchell was a part, and in respect to American pressure for The Bahamas to Support the USA publicly in respect to that Country's war effort in Iraq. Mitchell said that politics should end at the border. He does not seem to be taking his own advise in this instance. I say again I would like to see Mitchell as leader of the PLP. teh man has a pair on him and would make the PLP even more proud than it is.:bahamas:

As quiet as it is kept, they can watch us if the want to because they all watch news. Dissidents, and oppositon spokespersons testify and speak at the UN general assembly meetings.

He is a political spokesperson....it is his job!

That don't mean people can't see....I mean, regardless of him going out, does not mean that people don't know who these people are and how silly things are in the Bahamas.

The PLP is no longer the Government and Hon.Fred Mitchell is no longer foreign minister.Obviously, Hon. Mitchell is finding it difficult to accept this fact

I agree that this is indeed an unprecedented breech of protocol in light of the fact that Hon. F Mitchell is an elected member of parliament and a member of the Official Opposition of the Bahamas.
The question to be answered is whether or not his trip was sanctioned as an Official one by the Rt. Hon P. Christie on behalf of the PLP.
It would be interesting to hear the former PM's position on the matter but like we are now accustomed to the reality that the former Pm will as usual remain silent!
As they say mums the word!

Yes they can see.

Our Caribbean neighbors must be thinking, "With all that money they couldn't organize a puppet show."

Still, even when Collin Powell got kicked to the curb and lied to, he didn't immediately go all over the place calling Dubya a fool. Even now he chooses his words carefully.

Mitchell has a right to say what he wants, but he should be careful. He was a very public outspoken MOFA, probably the most internationally visible person we have had in years. He should be careful as some in the international community may still link his speech with the government. He is still an MP.

Ya gatta give him a point for gumption though, Gat dang!

What does it matter? He is the spokesperson regardless!
:)

Yea...I wonder what these FNMs are planning, paying attention now to every thing the PLP does, and taking attention away from their stupidity. Like, the schools not being fully repaired!

He can speak anywhere on anything. There is no breach of protocol. He is a political spokesperson. It is his job!

No gumption. His job. Not everyone has to stay silent, and let the FNM do as they please. They are wrong and off on many things, people have to speak. I don't blame him or anyone anywhere...

I like the way how the editor, is now speaking for the PM of Barbados....saying that " he knows it would not have been welcomed"...

Such ignorance should not be in a paper...but..such is the Tribguardian.

I am a Bahamian who enjoys expressing my point of view on various topics while respecting others to enjoy the same privilege.

Well it matters to me that a Member of Parliament is setting a potentially dangerous precedent and the Leader of his party may or may not be in full approval of his actions.
