Rizzo 12-13-04, - 08:39 AM I think you need to ask an apostle or bishop..... CG 12-13-04, - 09:45 AM I had a youngster in my family ask me how does someone become an Apostle or a Bishop? So I pass the question on to you all. The meaning of these two words can have different meanings in different Church groups, but traditionally, an Apostle is "an ardent early supporter of a cause or reform. Or, Any important early teacher of Christianity or a Christian missionary to a people." A Bishop is "a clergyman having spiritual and administrative authority; appointed in Christian churches to oversee priests or ministers; considered in some churches (Anglican Communion and Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic) to be successors of the twelve apostles of Christ." So how does one become an Apostle? If we stick to the traditional explanation, He could be an active, early, supporter of a faith, as apposed to a Disciple who is a learner of a faith. Or he could be a teacher or a missionary. As for a Bishop, he is usually a serving Priest first (often for a long time) and then is promoted to the position of Bishop by his Church body. CG 12-13-04, - 03:12 PM This question is not a joke I would like to let this person know the difference in a pastor and reverend and so on as well. As for your question about the differences between a Pastor and a Reverend. A Reverend is a member of the clergy and often, but not always, a spiritual leader in the Christian Church. He may be retired, or a teacher etc. It is also a title of respect for a clergyman. A Pastor is a person authorized to conduct religious worship, also one who Pastors or leads a flock. So, a Pastor is always a Reverend but a Reverend is not always a Pastor. isky 06-14-05, - 02:13 AM vicky I have read what cg has said and think you need to study the words themselves and also the hebrew and greek writtings not the notions of a teller of fables Vicky 06-15-05, - 12:07 AM vicky I have read what cg has said and think you need to study the words themselves and also the hebrew and greek writtings not the notions of a teller of fables Uh I believe CG was a Pastor. Lincoln 06-16-05, - 12:52 PM A bishop is the rank and title that the lost and confused disciples put in place after jesus left and they didn't know what to do. It totally violates his teachings that we are all equal. he said that we should call no man father, teacher, rabbi etc. Reverend is again a title of the church that totally violates scripture. It means feared etc. Scripture does not permit us to fear any man. Jesus said we are all brethren/equal. persons who carry those titles are in violation of scripture. But who cares? |
