Gang violence is about to "blow up" in Nassau a former gang member turned youth activist said last night.

Carlos Reid said that the recent violence in schools will not stop because "someone, somewhere is planning to retaliate."

His comments come on the heels of a stabbing at C.I. Gibson yesterday, which is believed to be gang-related......

Yinna REALLY need to read this WHOLE STORY !!!!!

At C. I. Gibson the most prevalent groups are the "Dogs" and the "Hoyers", he said.

While he does personally know the two boys who are allegedly involved in the stabbing yesterday, he said could tell they are a part of a gang by the insignia airbrushed on their back packs.

Having had intimate knowledge of the how the groups operate, Reid said the war is far from over. "Soon we're going to see violence all over the place, because no one wants to take 'the last'. If you attack someone belonging to my gang, then I'm going to take my vengeance out on someone in your gang. That's just the way it is," he said.

Asked why there were so many school boys joining gangs, Reid explained that the students crave to feel like they are a part of something. He added that it is hard not to get involved in a gang because one of the alternatives is to become a target of the gangs.

"They have to protect themselves," he said.

According to him, there are about 50 youth gangs in the Bahamas with the "Rebellions" who have about 14 different sections representing the largest group.

"When you think about the number of dysfunctional families in the Bahamas, it's no wonder so many kids are leaving their homes to join these groups," Reid said.

The only way to ensure that occurrences of violence do not happen on schools, is to the modernize the campuses, he said.

"A metal detector is not enough, you need close-circuit television because the schools are too open. What's to stop anyone from jumping a fence?" He asked.

The article is sad, but probably true. Unless these youths sensibly remove themselves from these gangs safely, it is inevitable that more violence will erupt.

Can modernizing the schools really help. Look at what happened in Columbine High and Virgin Tech in America.

It goes back to discipline. Children off today have no morals and disciplines to guide their behavours. Wtith this generation it is like do whatever you feel, without thinking about how it affect others. This is what happens with freedom without responsibility.

Where their is a will, there is a way, if kids are determined to be violent, they will find away. We need to change their minds and thoughts that causes them to plot such evil.

And trust me, the devil will always find work for idol hands.

If I could I would take all the gangs on this island, put them all in one stadium, and then let them off themselves, give Demeritte's some business :hammer:

That would reduce the population in Nassau and the bigger islands of kids between the age of 12-21 probably by 30-50%.....

Not likely, its a minority of school age kids that are active gang members. They just make the majority look bad.

But honestly if I could contain this gang violence to just the gangs, I would let them nuke themselves to oblivion. Ethnic cleansing at is best. :hammer:

It seems that this gang violence will exceed the resources of the police and the schools, and then we will become an all out war zone.

The sad thing is, these kids are joining these gangs looking for "family bonds".

What does that tell you of the state of parenting affair in our nation???:gi:
