I watched a programme last night on JCN that was hosted by Mr. (Paul ?) Aranha. He visited cemeteries in Nassau and showed the graves of "famous" Bahamians. He also gave a brief history of the family and their contribution to the Bahamas. The grave of Timothy Gibson (I think in St. Anne's Cemetery) has no grave marker!! Isn't it sad that this man who wrote our national anthem lies in a grave that only has his name etched roughly in cement? Mr. Aranha commented on the lack of a headstone or monument and said it would be fitting to have a headstone engraved with the music of our national anthem. I would think that our national heroes should have their final resting place marked with a fitting monument/ headstone!

Headstones can be very expensive. Don't know exact costs. My mom bought headstones for our grandparents thru a Nassau funeral home. That was a while back, so don't know the cost.

Headstones are the responsibility of the family. However, in Mr Gibson's case you would think that the governments, past and present, would have chipped in a few $$$$ - something a bit special for him.

sux teeth at thread!
Man, head stones are for the family to put up damn it...
Gibson has a big and prominent family...If they refused to put up a head stone for their father...that's on them. We always getting into people's personal business. Call Tim Jr. and ask him why he aint put no stone up.

Ill give 20 dollars just let me know where to send it...and shame on you people who are so selfish and unpatriotic(cg and one bigfrog) bringing up this man's broke or sorry azz family--if they wanted or couldve done it, it wouldve been done!

prominence doesnt equate to wealth. (ask the European Royalty sans those inbred Windsors)

I would give no such thing. His family and the government should see to it.

Incorrect. Timothy Gibson is buried in St. Mary's Graveyard in Virginia street.

I am sure that there is a marker for his grave. lolol Maybe the reason there is no head stone is that he was in the wrong grave yard lololol.........My family......yall een need to carry on like dat. Alien keep ya 20.00 we could afford a headstone and I think he has one.

I hope JCN has a rebroadcast of the programme. I can't remember the name, but I remember that the song played in the opening is "Swing Low"....In any case I said I THOUGHT it was St. Anne's. Mr. Aranha was in quite a few cemeteries during the programme. He showed a grave curb with the name Timothy Gibson roughly etched in cement. He then went on to say it was the grave of the man who wrote the national anthem, etc... Maybe a mistake and there is another TG..BUT, hopefully Timothy Gibson who wrote the national anthem has been memorialized with a fitting headstone!!!

This is such a superficial issue for the government to get involved with. We have kids 'jookin' one another up in schools. Parents and teachers fighting one another. An ant and rat infested public hospital. Tons of kids leaving schools who can barely read and write. Tons of teenage girls with big belly. Illegal immigrants on top of illegal immigrants piling up in this country. Despicable roads. Incompetent utility companies. Biggity straw vendors. A horrible public transportation system. Rowdy unions that promote mediocrity in the work force. Stray dogs runnin people in the road to their deaths. Overpriced and spoiled items in the food stores. A suck ***** public service. A one industry economy, and yinna makin nerze bout headstone for this gentleman. He is dead, he won't feel bad if he doesn't get a headstone. In fact, he is too dead to care.

Lets clean up the public cemetries if yall want something to make noise about. They are in a disgraceful state. Forget headstones, how about clearing the weed and thorns from off the graves. At least running a law mower through these cemetries at least once per month.
