They make a good sandwich, low in fat - if you get the right ones. Their Staff could use lessons in smiling, but other than that they are good. Rory 07-27-04, - 12:34 AM it sounds like you dont eat out here much, not in the US. I do here and the only pork I see is just laying in fat and grease, same goes with lamb chops. and both are full of fat. Name me one of your 'so called' healthy Bahamian restaurants and Im sure ive been there and can tell you how they cook it. Now, that said, I lived in the US, and they have these amazing things called diners, where you can get a great home style cooked meal, as healthy as you choose it to be, something we can only dream of here. There is one place I know of here, that is called the BBQ king, who sells grilled pork chops, mashed potatoes, grilled chicken, fish, lobster, etc, but he is the exeption of the rule, unless you pay to eat at a full blown restaurant, you are only going to find greasy chicken or fish. That conch and lobster you find at Bamboo shack is deep fried, so its just as bad as french fries, but it tastes a lot better, most of the time :-0 We have no where the number of health food stores as are found in the US, in fact there are maybe 2 in total here. I lived in NY and I spent almost every day at one health food store or another. I notice your bio sais you are in Miami (mini Cuba), Ive never been there so I cant comment what is in that city, which is barely concidered part of the USA (!), but ive been all over New York and down most of the East Coast. And by the way, Potato Salad and Macoroni Cheese are American Dishes, not Bahamian. All that said, I do love Macroni, Potato Salad, Conch and Lobster, the rest I dont care for at all. I love pork chops and lamb chops (though they are extremely greasy/fat no matter how you cook it, grill it), but they are world wide dishes, there is no special way they are cooked here, besides in a heck of alot of grease. Rory Rory 07-27-04, - 12:36 AM Ever tried Subways? They make a good sandwich, low in fat - if you get the right ones. Their Staff could use lessons in smiling, but other than that they are good. Not since i saw them spraying bug spray in the store near the 'fresh' food! Rory 07-27-04, - 12:41 AM you sound a bit americanized... :o Ive been here for 8 years without one trip to the US, so I doubt it. 90%+ of my daily diet is at bahamian restaurants/fast food joints, not american chains. and to ask them to wear gloves is really a joke!!! No, its the law and is proper heigine, would you eat a piece of food after I had handled it with my hands, right after I finished using the toilet without washing my hands??? (I wouldnt myself!) Maybe you should teach them CG? :D I love the Quiznos in Palmdale  the manager is really nice and the staff seem to have their teamwork thing down packed. Rory 07-27-04, - 01:03 AM yeah quiznos is some tasty food, and they wear gloves. But once again, they are not open on Sundays. Delroy 07-27-04, - 01:13 AM yeah quiznos is some tasty food, and they wear gloves. But once again, they are not open on Sundays. Yeah gloves are very important especially when dealing with bread. It's not like you can take the sandwich home and wash it off or anything :uh: Rory 07-27-04, - 03:12 AM anyway, regardless of what we think of Bahamian cuisine and other fast food, back to the original subject. Regardless of how healthy the actuall food is, yes we know it is not healthy, seems most people that answered arent really into Burger King anyway, and more and more people I speak to (other bahamians) also complain of how unsanitory it is, they too can see the french frie guy salting the fries with his hands!!! It aint just me :-) Great Demos 07-27-04, - 11:14 AM I cook my own food more these days. Delroy, I think you are doing the right thing. Other than buying fresh raw vegetables 2 or three times a week from a deli (minus the "grease"), just about every morsel of what I eat I prepare/cook myself. I think after you reach the age of about 40 or so you should stop eating most of this so-called Bahamain food, unless you plan to further fill up the PM hospital! CG 07-27-04, - 01:41 PM "You are what you eat!" Said a wise old man. If that is true then I am a garbage can! I wonder how many fast food eaters (including myself) Should have a bumper sticker with that on it. Alien 07-27-04, - 02:11 PM i personaly try to stay away from most fast food chains, becasue they are nasty and the food is pig slop! i can argue to them to wear gloves, but what difference willl it make if, they serve you lard in a box! to me, hygiene even though important, is not a top concerne compared with the nasty conditions they store and cook the food anyways!! i personaly dont frequent the fast food places anyways.. i make my own burgers..and they taste just fine!! Rory 07-27-04, - 02:16 PM i personaly try to stay away from most fast food chains, becasue they are nasty and the food is pig slop! i can argue to them to wear gloves, but what difference willl it make if, they serve you lard in a box! to me, hygiene even though important, is not a top concerne compared with the nasty conditions they store and cook the food anyways!! i personaly dont frequent the fast food places anyways.. i make my own burgers..and they taste just fine!! Thats the best burgers, home made :-) And yes you are right, how they store the food and the conditions they cook it under, is also a major issue. Ive seen some really dirty so called clean stovetops over the years while doing alarm service. If we had a working health department here, then maybe things would be better, but Im for the cooking it yourself thing from now on, just cant trust eating out anymore. 12play 07-27-04, - 03:09 PM growing up in Freeport, GB, I thought that a whopper was the most delicious sandwhich I had ever tasted. I dunno, maybe it was the rolls but it was delicious. Today, a whopper tastes like ****e. Simply awful. I dunno what they are doing differently but the quality of the food is seriously lacking. They will not be in business much longer, no matter how much money the owners have. islandgyal 08-03-04, - 08:31 PM scored conch, scored conch, guineps, mango, tamarind, guava duff, scallop plums, green coconuts, gilbey's gin and more scored conch ... who say bahamian food ain't healthy? you don't HAVE to use the crisco, ya know :sailing: ! |
