A colleague of mine is looking to hire a COB student for part time work, either Computer Science or Math major. This student would work 12 hours per week as a code monkey / sorcerer's apprentice learning and doing things like coding multi-layer perceptrons, server stubs, database stored procedures, session initiation protocols etc etc. He isn't looking for vast knowledge, but rather a quick mind -- a person who wants to learn extreme concepts.

What would a reasonable hourly wage be to pay such a person?

i was thinking closer to $20/hour, but that may be an out island budget ;-)

I was factoring in the learning curve. If the student will be learning advanced concepts, then they should take a pay cut and chalk it up as job experience.

exactly. the experience would be invaluable for this student. $10 to $15 per hour is more than enough for OJT.

I would but...I can't take any more projects right now. I work (parttime), and then school fulltime (trying to make the president's list at that), plus i am working on a website for someone as we speak (suppose to be done this month), and then I was suppose to actually work on a web DB app for COB but that looks like it will fall through (they decided they would go the manual route).

Now I can forward this to the guy who I was supposed to team up with on that project for COB.

edit:..BTW I got another project I want to launch for the new year

I would say since the minimum wage is 150 a week, which works out to about 12.50, that you should pay 25 an hour.

You fail BGCSE Maths eh? $150 a week for a basic 40 hour week is not $12.50 an hour but $3.75

I had some high school students do a job for COB a couple of years ago and they were paid $10.00 an hour which I was told is what COB pays their students for part-time work.
