Know any place in Nassau where I can find some external hard drives?

Since I got my laptop I have been using it to the point where I haven't turned on the desktop in two and a half months striaght until tonight. I have been trying to see if I can connect my laptop to my desktop and offload some files, but to no avail.....unless someone can walk me through that?

Anyway....an places that sells external hard drives? I went to Custom Computers, I wnat to see if there are any others.

When I looked here a year ago, all I found was a case which you plug an internal hard drive into and then to your computer via USB. A friend was visiting which had a complete unit which prompted me into checking here.

Best to invest in an external hard drive in any event. Great for back-ups etc., I have a brand new one for sale 160 GB for $105.00. It's easy as 1...2...3..
plug it in, turn power on and connect to USB and you have 160 Gb storage instantly.
Let me know if you're interested.

Sounds good, a bud of mines has the same thing and it works great. Chancellor can do this (but it would require him to open up his PC).

He can also simply use a flash drive, but that would require lots of back and forth.

If they are networked he can just share the drive and then transfer the files over his network (which is probably what I would do)..

I have a back up external hard drive for all files, 3 jump drives (one for iTunes, one for monthly backup, and one for portable apps). I have CD's with system backup and file backups.....paranoid? Nahh!!

thats inexpensive for Nassau .. what model is it? Could be interested if he isnt.
When you say power though, does it require external power? Reason asking is the ones I use just get power from the USB port.

Yeah. Trust me it's a great deal. Won't be able to tell you the model until later in the evening (When I get home). Yes. It has a plug and a power on/off button.

no need to open the PC up .. just plug it in the USB port. ;)
I could not live without mine now. :)

But I was quoting Netconnect's suggestion of plugging the internal drive into something (a case or just simply an IDE to USB cable) which would basically allow him to connect it to a usb port (thus making an internal drive an external one). That would indeed require him to open up his desktop and take the internal hdd out.

My home storage stuff:

I use 4 100GB 7200rpm 2.5" drives in Duel Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosures. Ultraportable, bus powered, superfast (if you avoid USB).

Two are mirrors of my photos (yes, paranoid as well - but those files are valuable!). Other two are for music, video and misc other stuff

The enclosures I buy from Amazon, for around $10-15 a piece, the drives are Hitachi/IBM TravelStar, as I've found these to be most reliable long term. They run about $100 each online.

If you don't need portability, then 3.5" enclosures run about 20-25 bucks, and Hitachi/DeskStars run at about $70 for 250GB.

I'd like to buy all this stuff locally, but until the computer companies stop gouging consumers (Custom Computers, I'm looking at you!), its just not viable.

Hope that helps.

Sure, if he was to use his desktop drive, though the idea would be to have a second drive .. for backup ;)
I prefer the 2.5" though as its more portable, I can fit the one I have here in my pocket, I carry it everywhere .. no need for a jump drive anymore .. :)

Hmm my bad didn't know he wanted a drive for backup. He said "offload files" so I thought he just wanted to move some files that he needed, from desktop to laptop or laptop to desktop.

Last August. I don't download anything on my PC, and dont really have much big apps sans a few i bought such as Office 07 Home/student, Command and Conquer Generals, Rise of Nations, High Heat Baseball 2001, Visio 2002. They are the biggest according to the add/remove control panel app. Then i got school stuff and some other things i work on.

Thats why when I built it I went for only 80gigs cuz i know i dont use much space to begin with.
