His point was that Christopher Colombus claimed this part of the world for God and for Spain. In the name of those two entities it lead to the destroying of millions of souls. Not a proud moment of Spain, or God for that matter. The slaughter came from ignorance. Mankind has spent a lifetime trying to dispel ignorance. The rest of humanity is not all against the church. There are vast amounts of people who have never heard of it. There are vast amounts of Christians who understand the meaning of suffering and want to get rid of it, as much as possible.

Let me tell you a story.
Very many years ago I was doing some research in a Newspaper Morgue (The place where they store back issues) in England. I came across a letter to the Editor written around the end of the 1800's. It was from a Vicar. He was obviously answering someone's question. As well as my memory serves, here is what it said.

"No Sir! I would not take medicaments (old word for medicines) I would not even take one for a common headache. I frequently have such pains.

I reason that God wishes that headache upon me, or he has allowed his agents to afflict me such, as he allowed Job to be tormented. To take a medicament would be to frustrate the will of God. I cannot do so and I oppose all those who would try such a fool-hardy blasphemy against the will of our Creator. "

I am sure he was in the minority even then, but I guess you might agree with him. I wonder what he, or you, might say about heart transplants, and other organ transplants that manipulate human life and save it?

All medicine, and much of science, manipulates human life, in one form or another. Some are minor, some major. Where do you draw the line?
