View Full Version : Stem Cell Research
Alien 08-09-04, - 12:16 PM Every sperm cell has the potential of becoming a fertilized egg and full grown human being as well.
im saying that an egg with the fertilization of a sperm can become a human...one without the other can do nothing, and you know that...or do i have to teach biology as well!
You are saying that abortion and human genetics is wrong. But it was ok for people to be bruned alive because of christian religous views
once again...WTF???
I never said I agreed with abortion I never said I dissagreed with it ether.
well whgat are you on about then??? :D
A good moral code is good no matter what side you are on. Food for thought, If you disagee with abortion you should be willing to look after all the unwanted children. How many of these unwanted children will you adopt??? Maybe so many kids that we will need to let GLBT adopt as well. :cutie:
no..i should be willing to preserve the rights of individuals not in a position to make a descision on their life!
i should be willing to set up facilities, to help foster those who are not in a position in the society to be a member of a smaller community!
we dont need to make a bad situation worse..ala "teenage pregnancy".."unplanned pregnancy" INTO..."homosexual adoption"..."abortion"..."embryonic research"...yuck!!! :screw:
So did Cloumbus so did the wright Brothers want more!!!!!
comparing columbus and the wright brothers to hairbrained biologist and mad scientists is alot laughable!
columbus..even though opened the indians to slaughter...was an explorer of the seas..not even a conqueror, his exploration of the world, was not that of a human being not able to make sound judgement for his or her self!
there is a difference vicky...i just dont think you are willing to see it.
and that is disturbing!
Vicky 08-09-04, - 06:33 PM im saying that an egg with the fertilization of a sperm can become a human...one without the other can do nothing, and you know that...or do i have to teach biology as well!
But each 1 can become human when combined. Each combined sperm and egg can become human. But when is it human????? My point here is when do we consider it a human being?
once again...WTF???
You make many a reference to the natural way by the Creator. Saying Abortion is unnatural. Is burning people alive natural. Yet Christians did it.
well whgat are you on about then??? :D
I say stem cell research is a good thing who knows what of the many diseases that can be cured? Just to let you know my granddaughter is a child of date rape. We as a family discussed abortion adoption and keeping the child our selves. My tadpole and is 6 years old. Does this help???
no..i should be willing to preserve the rights of individuals not in a position to make a descision on their life!

How many of these unwanted children will you adopt??? In this case I would say to you put up or shut up. What will you do with all the unwanted children??????????????
comparing columbus and the wright brothers to hairbrained biologist and mad scientists is alot laughable!
You mean harebrained explorers. Just because Columbus used a ship and biologist uses a microscope they are no less explorers.
columbus..even though opened the indians to slaughter...was an explorer of the seas..not even a conqueror, his exploration of the world, was not that of a human being not able to make sound judgement for his or her self!
Ah now you are saying human being. I must ask again when are we human beings???? Does it not start with a sperm cell and an egg? So is a sperm cell a human being??? Or is an egg a human being. Well thinking about it maybe when the 2 get together and they split for the first time it is a human being. First you must define what is a human being!!!!!!
there is a difference vicky...i just dont think you are willing to see it.
I see it I am just pointing out a few facts that you seem to be avoiding.
I have asked you a question on this issue (in red) 3 times and you will not answer it.
and that is disturbing!
Alien 08-09-04, - 09:11 PM because that is a moot point.....
adoption and stem cell mutlilation have no co-relation...and neither does abortion, if you as pro choicers!
we can go on and on....you have your oppinion, and to be honest, it is not one shared by the majority of the bahamian people!
btw humanist exteemist are of the same value type as people who fight for peace, and having sex for virginity...they try to do the right thing in their mind, but end up doing worse!
Vicky 08-10-04, - 09:29 AM because that is a moot point.....
How can it be moot? No No wait I get it the unwanted children a moot. :uh: Just leave them on the street homeless and hungry. If abortion is going to happen might as well use the stem cells instead of putting them in the dump.
Your opinion does not hold ground. Yes I agree abortion should not have to be done in the first place. But it’s the world we live in. People that have children should look after them Fact not all of them do its the world we live in. Stem cells can be harvested from other places not just aborted fetuses. But abortion is going to happen anyway it’s the world we live in.
My friend died because her mother believed blood is not to be shared. (Jehovah witness thing) So I know personally how blind ignorant faith kills. If the Creator did not want us to be able to use blood transfusion it would not work.
adoption and stem cell mutlilation have no co-relation...and neither does abortion, if you as pro choicers!
Each one involves the other. It’s the birth life of human beings
we can go on and on....you have your oppinion, and to be honest, it is not one shared by the majority of the bahamian people!
So you say buts that you saying it. The people I have talked to would say you are wrong and blinded because for you the world is flat.
btw humanist exteemist are of the same value type as people who fight for peace, and having sex for virginity...they try to do the right thing in their mind, but end up doing worse!
You mean like the grand inquisitions, the torturing and murdering of people to make them Christian and to save their souls. Is that the kind of extremist you are talking about?

Alien 08-10-04, - 04:44 PM now you are rambling again...rambling man.....
off topic, and spinning way out of control!!!!
when you learn to stick to the legality the morality and the ethics of this topic...i will respond to you again!
:bye: ..bye bye!
Vicky 08-10-04, - 07:10 PM Y2kbad If you call a different prospective rambling so be it. But you have still not said, "What you will do with the unwanted children?????"
If I missed your responce please repeat it.
If stem cells are harvested from the umbilical cord after birth is the research ok then???
fletchgal 08-12-04, - 10:01 AM This article gives (I think) a fairly clear description of stem cell research - which you might be interested in.

We should clone this U.K. policy
By PETER SINGER AND ABDALLAH DAAR
University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics
Yesterday, scientists in the United Kingdom announced that they'd been granted permission by the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority to create stem cells by therapeutic cloning. Now the U.K. is positioned to lead the world in translating the potential benefits of stem-cell research into patients. Canada should follow its lead and permit therapeutic cloning under strict regulation.

Thanks fletchgal, Good article. If adult, or cloned Stems Cell work that might quiet down the moral hubbub.
Alien 08-12-04, - 04:02 PM and we are at the same point ...
we even have human beings we created...and we are ready to devalue them!!
what in the world is going on in this world...
to me it is such a lack in respect for our brothers and sisters, and ethical descisions to human problems!!
i have heard about other forms of stem cell research, such as spinal cord cells, and marrow cells...
but embryonic cells, of a living human being, cloned or not..is just not right for all the right reasons!
but i fear, everytime we try to tamper with human life...we end up getting hurt more in the long run!!
as cruel as it sounds....more than 50% of women who have an abortion, are unable rear children naturaly..and that statictic goes up if she decides to have another one!
there are alot of women out there..who have had abortions....and are unable to go through natural pregnancies becasue of the rigors of abortion!!
its a sad tale!!!

Surprisingly, I agree. It is a sad tale (abortions wise.) But it is a legal tale. The law supports it (abortions.)
As for Stem Cells, we do not know as yet. It may prove to be a miracle, it may not but we must try. Mankind must always try to repair that damage that God, or nature, has visited upon us - after all he, or it, is not doing much.
If it was left to God, or nature, we would have a short, miserable, brutish life as was the case from time was. You may not know this but, left to God, or nature, the average lifetime of a male is about 39 years. A female 30 years. Many females died in child birth. Modern medicine has extended our lifetimes by decades. Child birth, an amazingly inefficient way of reproduction as been "fixed" by medicine, so much so, that women now out live men, and we have a population explosion - something "new" in the history of mankind.
God, or nature, is a very poor Doctor. We must look to ourselves.

How about homosexuals and transgenderd are we human beings??? Yet you devalue us.

Oh you mean only heterosexual brothers and sisters are respectable every other human being is not a brother or sister there for not human enough to be respected..

CG, I must say I am puzzled. What about some of those Old Testament people who lived for over 900 years?
All I can say is that if what you are saying in this post is correct, then our Holy Bible is fraught with errors!

CG it's all apart of the Creators plan. For the Creator there is nothing new under the Sun.
The Creator helps those that help them selves.
The Creator knows we are just guessing learning and evolving.
CG, I must say I am puzzled. What about some of those Old Testament people who lived for over 900 years?
All I can say is that if what you are saying in this post is correct, then our Holy Bible is fraught with errors!
No, not a lie, or a mistake, or error. You have to know how to read Spiritual text. It is filled with metaphor, allegory, etc. The words seldom mean what they say. They stand for something else. For example. If I were to say to you, "My feet are on fire! I walked and walked all day. I walked a million miles!" You look down at my feet and see no flames or smoke. You get out your calculator and discover that it is impossible for a person to walk a million miles in a day! Do you call me a liar? Or do you understand the imagery that I was putting across? Which was, my feet hurt because I walked a lot! You don't take my story literally, but you understand it's meaning.
The Bible is written in a way that is not to be taken literally. The age of 900 years, and other long ages of some men, stands as a symbol for great wisdom - "with age comes wisdom" or so we are told. And we must also allow for the possibility that time was not measured in the same way then, as it is now.
Whichever explanation we chose, it is clear that the human body cannot survive 900 years. It was never made to do that. There is no evidence, in the vast collection of ancient human remains that suggest anything even close to that. In fact in those early days, 39 years was an old man.
If one sees the Bible as JUST a history book, that everything means what is says, literally, then one has to come to the conclusion that it is filled with errors. It does have history but it is more than history. It is a book of imagery that one can use to open the soul to God.
P.S. If Stem Cells work, who knows? Maybe we can reach great age - 100, 200, maybe more! May be one day a guy who is 100 will be considered a youngster!
Alien 08-13-04, - 12:06 PM we understand that cg...we understand, trust me we do!!!
we arent... :dunce:
