View Full Version : North Andros
NetConnect 09-22-07, - 12:01 AM Hey, went to North Andros today. Flew into Fresh Creek and drove/rode for 6 hours all the way to the top and back, had lunch (boiled fish etc) Was a nice day until the rains came at 1:30 pm.
Was there on business in Love Hill, nice beach.
Only saw about 4 cars the whole trip besides goverment vehicles (BTC, BEC, Water Sewage)
Noticed something different, Androsians drive down the centre of the road until a car comes. Lots of bust ups there, I can imagine.
Glad to be back in Nassau.
Native Stew 09-22-07, - 12:30 AM it's best to drive down the center of an open road when speeding down those wide andros roads. it's safer than staying too close to the edge of the road when going fast as you can run off the road easily at high speeds. staying in the center gives you room to recover.
I love andros. used to drive from fresh creek to nicholl's town in 45 minutes at 80 mph. hardly saw another vehicle.

Very few cars. VERY FEW.
When I was a kid inn Mangrove Cay, they use to drive in the middle of the road because the margins were very eroded and had the most potholes.

Cool!
I was there in August, Central and North.
Nice place, kind of sad to see so many abandoned building, some recently built. People are nice, like all islanders however want to know who you are, not just your name, but your history, lol.
I like it, can't wait to go back.

Oh, I forgot to mention the good food I had in Mastic Point, a nice beach/creek called – Summerset Creek in Fresh Creek (I think). Also most of the island (North and Central) has GSM service which was impressive. There are not much people, for me this is a plus.

you travel to the out islands alot, dare i ask what you do for a living? :)

lets just say, just for a kicks, one was driving in they jeep doing like 90, see cause anything over 90 and chance of being flipped with the slightest wind or bump ... and one next car coming down the road towards you doing .. lets say maybe like 140mph ... do you think you could get out of the way in time, I mean do you think you both could tell what speed the other is doing .. what if there is some bush fire and that makes you not see the other car ... or you dont have 20-20 vision ... maybe the other driver is drunk .. maybe you are ..
Anyway I dont think driving down the middle of the road is a good idea if you are going to drive fast, at least it is no safer than driving in the proper lane (if they exist?). :sailing:

Travel the islands, :), das what I do!
androsann 09-22-07, - 11:09 AM Man, Net Connect, you mean you slipped into my home town and didn't look me up, shame on you!
Now perhaps you see why I made this place my home after being in Nassau for a few years. Peace, quiet, friendly people, no need for police in school :D
A place where 4 cars spaced along the road is considered a traffic jam, where I can leave home and travel the 3 miles to work in under 5 minutes.
Glad you enjoyed your visit, come back again soon.

NORTH ANDROS IS, and has always been considered the CAPITAL OF ANDROS, North is better developed and has the majority of the population.

Ann, I didn't know until the night before I was going. All the time there I knew you were somewhere and wished I had sent you a PM.
You and I have been on this forum as well as he other before it went down the toilet (me under a different handle) for years. Would have been nice to meet you.

Actually, when I was in Nichols Town area, I thought it too populated for my liking. I did enjoy Love Hill, Fresh Creek area. But, then again, I liked Mars Bay when I was in South Andros. Also the Deep Creek area if I was going to purchase property in the south end. Looked like a better fishing area.

It is not so populated now, due to difficulties finding employment a lot of people have relocated to other islands. A lot of North Androsians are now living in Exuma working at Emerald Bay, and a lot more have moved to Great Habour Cay, Chub Cay, Abaco and Grand Bahama. If you never lived in a family island you're missing a good life.
I will never exchange my childhood for anything in the world, it was fun growing up on the island.
