Im all for helping the poor man, or the guy that maybe ill and not able to work, etc etc etc etc .. but man I getting tired now .. 2 Lights on Shirley Street there are 2 separate bums that is be there begging all day .. and we always get catch at them lights:

Shirley and Village Road - now this fellow is come up and slam your vehicle .. i mean he almost is punch it sometimes .. I thought he was going to break my headlight one day .. I only got so much patience though .. actually I have very little but someone best move that fellow from around there before I ga trip out.

Shirley and Mackey Street - This light is one messed up light BTW!!! Anyway .. ahhh .. a new fellow now. He has a problem with his foot, just came out of hospital or something .. and needs money for a soda of all things .. calls you "father" .. yet he is much older himself. I mean when I was ignoring him as he was just 1 foot away from my window (which was down) for the entire duration of the red light, i figure he would have got the drift and moved onto one of the other vehicles .. :shaky:

Im not sure how this guy is doing, but he used to drink alot a WHOLE lot and I use to always see him Down Town, he was short-bright and had curly hair (dont know his background) but now he is working at the Gas Station in The COB area, I was shocked when I saw him there (not sure if he is still there)

I wonder if he would have been considered a bum or just an alcoholic, its amazing how many EX alcoholic's I know!!!

Been there done that, I use to be one myself (somewhat) many moons ago, but never ever begged for money or bothered anyone. Some people get help, help themselves, or just grow out of it, but I know of quite a few from back then that never did, some died, some are still alcoholics and walking the streets, some still doing the drugs or all of the above. Back then my downfall was the party lifestyle, life was one big party, I finally got out of it though and luckily at a still young age, and luckily it only lasted a few years and not a lifetime, like some.

granted i didnt live in my own feces like some of them do, I still had a place to sleep when I was not out "partying" for 3 days in a row, and even had a job here and there. I got caught up in that whole tourist thing and ofcourse the partying days of the early 90's. Never did anything criminal either, as drinking a 40 mixed with water and passing out was not against the law, was not a good idea, but was still legal :D

The question is, where are the family members for these people? Its unfortunate though that there are so many bums.

What ticks me off is the young strong bums. There is one on east street south who is usually in the area of City Market and On The Run gas station. This dude looks like he can work, nothing is wrong with him.

Anyway, these guys if they come across enough generous people can walk away with some good money ( 50 cents from 500 people is $250!!!), but they are to busy thinking about the next hit.:yoyo:

I hae to say that I have never seen a "bum" in Freeport. I really dont like using that word.
However I remember reading a while back on the Freeport News about the store owners from downtown complaining about people sleeping in their stores front and so on.

now now now...fa shame!
everyone on the street begging isnt on drugs! they could be crazy, or just making a living begging...when I was in school there was a lady on 103rd and 27th in her wheel chair peddling- she een on drugs- she there because that's where she wants to be and that's what she likes to do! she even put her daughter through college and she is still there!

its a business for some of these people-there is money to be made from some doting sucker with a bleeding heart for the perceived homeless suffering on some streetcorner! whenever they ask me for something I sign them a cross then proceed to say are you on drugs? The white ones I say the first of the month just gone after giving them the sign...the ones in the shopping plazas or at gas stations with the shaking cups I ask for a quarter first(before they can even open their mouths) and usually laugh with them say peace my brother and God bless you and keep trucking...

some of these families know where their kinfolk is but they strays/bums as yinna refer to them want to be where they are...quietly many of us een to far from being on the street (ie being two checks from the starry nights and green grass motel at all!)

me and my idiosyncrasies...

you been to downtown miami or south beach in the wee hours of the morning?lol man i have to practically walk over a homeless person if I go to the bank late- its safe! and south beach- those beach chairs are beds- with that cool breeze from the ocean- Id be there too! one morning we was coming from seeing the sunrise on the beach and this man was washing up with the shower getting ready for work! I was so impressed it warmed my heart- that man went to work and he has no bills! the things one sees at times...

That's most of Nassau. nearly everyone's living above his/her means. Yet these same people have the nerve to turn up their noses at the bums when they are the working poor who are living on credit.

I can relate...though they have not tapped on the window yet. Have you seen Nassau street at the intersection by VIP? It's like one for each of the four corners? sometimes two on one corner, and it's like they share the week! Like a particular one every Wednesday an one every Tuesday!

I agree with Tafadhali, some people do it as a business. If you notice some of them are there only at certain times of the year, and with sponsor sheets or the like.

But it annoys me now to the point where sometime people are on the street just handing out flyers and I give them the inappropriate gesture....until I catch myself.
