View Full Version : Bacardi could be held liable for millions in damages Rory 09-26-07, - 08:42 AM .. islandgyal 09-26-07, - 03:33 PM pardon me, but it's the developers of venice bay who should be hung out to dry, for building a gated community right next door to an industrial plant. sense, people, sense :dgi: Alien 09-26-07, - 05:03 PM pardon me, but it's the developers of venice bay who should be hung out to dry, for building a gated community right next door to an industrial plant. sense, people, sense :dgi: lol.... Excalibur 09-26-07, - 05:06 PM pardon me, but it's the developers of venice bay who should be hung out to dry, for building a gated community right next door to an industrial plant. sense, people, sense :dgi: I agree. Remember, they tried to sell that land to Bacardi and they would not buy, so VB then tried to sue them. They caused Bacardi to pull out, no one wants to say it, but I did. Excalibur 09-26-07, - 05:12 PM I think their argument was that they owned the land before Bacardi came there. Regardless of that, I think we should be pretty concerned as to the allegations that there may be toxic fumes and hazardous smoke coming from the place; other people may live downwind from that at any time. Nassuvians on a whole don't seem to be that concerned when it comes to burning fires and such, they may complain occasionally about smokers and health and this and that, but once we have nobody checking on these things, such as exhaust fumes from cars and jitneys, all the daily illegal fires, and ofcourse the main dump, everything else related to health is moot. I wake up every morning during rush hour traffic, coughing on either black or blue smoke from where I live .. its kind of sad after a while. LOL. You forget yinna dump a? When they are burning that, then lets talk. The whole island is misty. I wound be more concern with that and the developers building houses next to it. Excalibur 09-26-07, - 05:25 PM Yeah I mentioned that also. ;) You sure did. I think that is a MAJOR health hazard. Excalibur 09-26-07, - 05:31 PM Been driving out west a couple times recently at night, and right about Goodmans bay, that place is covered in smoke .. couldnt be fog man .. i knew someone that use to live in that area, and they had to have their windows closed at night most of the time. That CANT be healthy! Yup, sad but true. fruitfulpointandros 09-26-07, - 05:47 PM Bacardi in my opinion has been running an unfit operation in the Bahamas since they arrive. One of these days take a closer look at the ocean front area surrounding the Bacardi company. One might say, " Oh the developers of Venice Bay should have known better". I experienced the dark heavy smoke lingering below the level that it should have not reached to, while in the vicinity. The smoke stacks were to low. The Bacardi company in Puerto Rico, should I say, is in immaculate condition compared to what is here in the Bahamas. You can almost eat of the grounds. There are also Bahamians living around that site who were their from a long time ago. They have been experiencing a thick smoke coming from the are of the Bacardi company, that would leave a dark heavy substance on their walls and floors inside of their homes. I would say the government should be held accountable for the improper management of Bacardi. It is the government who approves and renew property plans. Therefore it was the government who gave the home owners on Bacardi Road their approvals to build homes around the Bacardi site and also renewed the Bacardi company contract. If the area was an unsuitable for persons to build homes, the government should not have granted those permits. If the Bacardi company is operating in a manner that would threaten our environment, it is operating in a manner that would affect us all as Bahamians in the long run. Maybe its affecting us at this moment but we are so concerned about the amount of employed persons at Bacardi, we do not want to try and find out if something is actually wrong with the way they are running their operation.
