A man who fired at a home with a high-powered assault rifle and killed a 12-year-old boy has been sentenced to death.

Roger Watson, 36, who is better known as "Double R", was seeking revenge when he fired on the wooden house in Ferguson Street, Fox Hill prosecutor Cheryl Grant-Bethel said.

And Eddison Curtis-Johnson, an "innocent, defenseless child" was killed by a bullet through the head as he sat in the front room watching TV around 8 p.m. on January 15, 2003. The television's remote control was still in his lap.

Watson had accused Johnson's step-father of raping his girlfriend.

And a week before, Johnson's step-uncle had broken the windshield of Watson's Lexus GS 400 car. The step-uncle had previously dated Watson's girlfriend, the court heard.

And with revenge on his mind, Watson let an accomplice drop him off a distance from the house. Armed with an assault rifle that had a range of a mile, he stood in the street and opened fire on the home. One of the bullets pierced the door, a wall and passed through Johnson's head.

After the incident, Watson was picked up in another car. He was arrested a short time later.
