View Full Version : Boycotting Cable Bahamas
bahamianpride 09-26-07, - 06:11 PM How is Satellite TV Illegal. Can Someone please quote me an act, law or policy that states or even implies that satellite TV is illegal. I doubt you will find such an act because satellite tv is not illegal in this country.
satellite TV is illegal if your service provider HAS NOT been authorized by the PUC to render the service...
anyone else not get the concept...
they challenged Cable Bahamas...Indigo...and berated BTC for offering a VOIP service without seeking proper approval....
now tell me HOW IS IT NOT ILLEGAL....
bahamianpride 09-26-07, - 06:14 PM The Poll simply asks if you would consider boycotting Cable Bahamas...
for any reason...
The Christian Council was the first and only group to suggest a boycott of Cable Bahamas...
NOT The Rainbow Alliance of the Bahamas
bahmaboy 09-26-07, - 07:04 PM even though the first poster didnt say this was in relation to the gay channel issue i know it is becuase i think thats the person from the rainbow alliance
anyway why cant these people be mature adults and compromise. have the logos channel available as a paid channel. if someone want to pay an extra 5-10 bucks per month for it to watch in their house, then let them.

I think that is the plan...to have Logo as a pay per view thing.

Actually Winter I think Ms. Greene wishes that Logo be on basic cable...payperview is a non issue with her: thus the use of the media

no man I think it's payperview, she mentioned it in one thread I believe
hiphopanonymous 09-26-07, - 11:12 PM with all this talk of boycotting cable bahamas, i wondered what people are thinking and what alternatives would they use to access information and entertainment media....
our alternatives are ZNS.....still legal, but should be banned...
satellite tv...illegal but widely used in the bahamas...
internet...unreliable access and no access to tv shows and very few movies...
no tv...no internet just...print media and word of mouth....
Why should ZNS be banned?
Also about this whole CB and logo thing........even though I don't want to watch logo and personally don't morally agree with homosexuality....consumers have the right to choose which products they want to purchase.......in a FREE and DEMOCRATIC nation CB should be able to offer logo as a package consumers could purchase if they want...just like how you have to pay extra for HBO and other channels.
The Christian Council has no right to tell Bahamians what they should or shouldn't be allowed to watch, its our money we can use it the way we want....they probably want us to spend it on "gifts of love" to the bishops and to donations to their churches aka their private bank accounts. :realmad: :realmad:

the technical errors, the technical errors, the lack of programming, heavy reliance on christian programming, the technical errors, the News is full of grammatical errors, technical errors, and is just a press machine for the government of the day...

Your logic is twisted. It is illegal to sell anything without a license. It is illegal for persons to sell phone cards on the side of the street without a permit but does that make phone cards illegal!
Again I repeat, Satellite TV is not illegal
I have read the PUC act 1993 and 1999 and I see nothing in there that states that satellite TV is illegal! The act was amended in 1999 to state that private use of any utility is not regulated by the PUC.
Exrated 09-27-07, - 01:33 AM well... this is dumb

receiving media in your home by use of a satellite system is illegal unless the PUC has approved your service provider...
as it stands cable bahamas and ZNS are the only companies/corporations authorized to provide the service....
a satellite system is not a utility...
and even if it was the PUC wouldn't dictate what you watch and when you watch it...
electricity is a utility...
you are not allowed to receive the service from any other service provider...
in the event of a power outage you are allowed to use generators or alternate sources of power...
but when you construct your house you must connect to BEC right...
the PUC doesn't regulate when and how you use your electricity...
just who you can receive the service from.....
we have been through this before .. anyway, everyone in the Bahamas using MSN IM, AOL IM, and any other software that has a feature to send or receive voice over the internet .. is breaking the PUCs laws .. actually, there is a feature built into Windows to do just that, so that means ALL Windows users are breaking they laws :shaky:
See they holding me back from making my own VOIP product .. done started work on it, but cant actually legally "test" it .. suks .. i gonna take my product to the US and they gonna have to get all the recognition for it .. Hmmphh :realmad:
Majikart 09-27-07, - 04:02 AM I posted a reply a couple of minutes ago that demonstrated my habit of not checking earlier threads to see if that will answer my question, so you were'nt seeing things; But,After reading some of the replies, I still wonder why the Bahamian government makes it so diffecult and long drawn-out if licensing is the case.

Why? They want to milk you for as much "application money' as they can get . THAT's why!
If the Cabinet Ministers approve your plan right away, how are they gonna get their protracted bribes? They've got to get at least two gift giving holidays our of you.
