CG, I don't know about "the only religion"; but "the only way to God", yes, Christ Himself said that. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". John 14:6.
So if the Master says it, don't you expect the flock to believe it!?
Of course I do! But what is a religion but a way to God?
You will find something like the verse you quote in all religions. In the Bhagavad Gita, (Hindu) Krishna says, "20. I am the self which is at one with Infinity and which resides in every living and non-living thing. I am the physical beginning, middle and end of all manifestations of the Infinite."
Even in Buddhism it says that the Lotus path (Buddhism) is the only path.
I don't see how believing what the Master says is putting yourself on a pedestal. The Master was a Man of humility and TRUE Christians are to be humble also!
Misunderstanding what the Master says is the trouble. He is the way for you, just as Krishna is for the Hindu. Jesus is not the only way - he is however, for the Christian "the Way."
But many Christians do put themselves on a pedestal because they see those words and think they are original words that no one said before. Every body (Saviors) says them, or something like them. It is a witness to a truth that they are trying to convey.
On the question of humble. I have met many Christians, all over the world. Few are humble, but those who are make the greatest companions - and I would venture to say that they are the better examples of the faith.
Lincoln 08-23-04, - 06:46 PM The new testiment also says that Christ is all and in all. Jesus was the physical man, Christ was the spirit in him. That spirit is not just for the so called christians.
Any time Jesus talked about the way to be saved He simply save believe.
On occassion he said sell all you have and give it to the pour. Not go up to the alter and repeat after the pastor or say some rituals. Or change religions.
When he said he was the way he was talking about the spirit in him.
Lincoln 08-23-04, - 06:58 PM If you took the time to read the first chapters of Leviticus and Deuteronomy Vicky you would see clearly who those laws were given to.
I will tell you again: "I am not a Jew!"
So delroy I take it you don't pay tithes either cause that was for jews.

well for one thing for cg to critisize the faith for something he didnt understand, and refuse to beleive in is kind of hypocritical!
for cg to insinuate that almost all of the christians living today are living a lie and only he knows the truth is also hypocritical...he isnt in the mix, and claims to have not been in the mix for a while, and when he was in the mix never got it, and that is why he switched sides...is also hypocritical!
for cg and vicky to say or anyone for that matter..to question the heart of a man and to judge his soul, and condemn him to wherever, is also ridiculous, and laughable!
no one knows what is in the heart of a man, and to my beleif only one spirrit knows...
i beleive.....
so for cg to be on the other side, and admitted to switching, becasue he wasnt being fulfilled, and then to say the way to fulfillment in christianity is such and so...is most of all hypocritical!
cg did you really want to change sides..or it was a fashion statement for you?
becasue you seem to have so much to say about your former religion, and very little to say about your new one??

I am a son of God. But if you study the history of the church you -like CG- will become very disatisfied with christianity. Its history is full of hypocracy and evil. Jesus did not come to bring a religion. He came to show us that we are free from it. he came to show us the way by being an example. Don't you notice how angry he got when his disciples were amazed by something he did. For example when he withered the tree and they were amazed. He told them that they could do the same thing, even greater. He was even more angry when they woke him in the boat because of rough seas. He called them faithless.
He said the same things I do, you will do and even greater.
He said that you are no longer servants of god but sons of god- Like him. Christ like.
He said call no man your teacher cause one is your teacher- Christ. Yet we ignore this and live life dependent on a pastor.
The head of man is Christ (Cor 11:1) Not the pastor.
Christianity has missed.
CG is the wisest person that I have encountered on this website. You should listen to him more.

I taught Religion for years. I preached in Churches, I understand. I think you are using the wrong word. A hypocrite is a person who professes beliefs and opinions that they do not hold.
for cg to insinuate that almost all of the christians living today are living a lie and only he knows the truth is also hypocritical...
Never said they were living a lie. Some are living a misunderstanding, others have it right, but that is true in all religions. Never said I was the only one who knew the truth. There are millions of us! Join us!
he isnt in the mix, and claims to have not been in the mix for a while, and when he was in the mix never got it, and that is why he switched sides...is also hypocritical!
In the mix? If you mean Christianity, How could one not be in the mix in a Christian country? I have said before that I attend Christian Churches from time to time. I do that because Spiritual refreshment can be found in all faiths. I also attend Hindu services, when available. I have Christian friends, some of who are Pastors they keep me in the mix.

But you judge my heart, are you the one spirit that knows? You call me a hypocrite, but you don't even know what the word means!
so for cg to be on the other side, and admitted to switching, becasue he wasnt being fulfilled, and then to say the way to fulfillment in christianity is such and so...is most of all hypocritical!
Again, not only do you have the wrong word, hypocrite, you judge me again. Read more of my postings. I said Christianity is a Way to God, as valid as any. You want Christianity to be the exclusive Way. It is not. Perhaps it is just hard, or impossible, for a Christian to believe that anyone can have anything good to say about their religion.
cg did you really want to change sides..or it was a fashion statement for you?
Really wanted to! And you are right, in the late 60's early 70's it was fashionable to profess Buddhism. But most of those people have long since returned to their first faith, or another.
becasue you seem to have so much to say about your former religion, and very little to say about your new one??
I did post a thread here on Buddhism. I have had things to say about it just not recently. What would you like to know? :)
Anyhow, just for you, a saying of the Buddha - Praise and blame, gain and loss, pleasure and sorrow come and go like the wind. To be happy, rest like a giant tree in the midst of them all.

Ok Lincoln, point taken.
I think you will agree that we have to be careful in criticizing Christianity. For instance, most (perhaps all) movements/organizations when they first began did some foolish, immature things which they most likely regreted later. The movement was new, they just didn't know any better at the outset. Remember St Paul who did all those terrible things to the Christians in his early days. Yet when touched by Christ, he later became a spiritual giant, perhaps the greatest Christian (other than Christ Himself) who walked the earth! Even today it would seem that some of the most sincere Christians are the ones who had previously led wicked lives.
So when you talk about being dissatisfied with Christianity, I believe that both you and CG are referring to how it is practised in some of the Christian churches today. There are also many true Christians attending these churches who notice the lack of Christ-likeness among some of the congregation. And as St Paul says, the backward Christians are just "babes in Christ".
It is therefore the job of the pastor to teach them and help them to enhance their spiritual life.

and i can pick out one hundred more people dissatisfied with religion in general....and one thousand more people fed up with life...DEAL WITH IT!
the world is filled with hypocrisy and evil....that ia why we have faith and hence religion to help us along our way..i am not disagreeing with the flaws of the religion...but all other religion has some kind of contextual flaw...DEAL WITH IT!
Jesus did not come to bring a religion. He came to show us that we are free from it. he came to show us the way by being an example. Jesus was angry at anyone who did not heed the words of the true meaning of humanity..and that is to live for your neighbor, and love your God...
but with even the disciples imperfection..they chose to move on..and not dweill on the sins and trnasgressions of the past..but they moved on..AND DEALT WITH IT!
and with that..chriist was teaching soething new..he may have been angry, but didnt fault them for the mistakes they made, or condemed them becasue they were ignorant, and that is what christianity teaches us...to livce with our mistakes, and ask for forgiveness!
He said the same things I do, you will do and even greater.
He said that you are no longer servants of god but sons of god- Like him. Christ like.
human beings colectively are doing great things everyday..under christianity under bhudism under islam..its negative nellies and religious zealots who tend to minimalize the efforts of christianity and religion in general..saying its story book, and ridiculous the way some choose to follow!
i said before, until you know....you cant be faulted...you may suffer consequences, but life is for us to live..we can never experience the full meaning of it if we dont do good and bad things!
He said call no man your teacher cause one is your teacher- Christ. Yet we ignore this and live life dependent on a pastor.
i have been telling cg and them that..but instead they want to put pastors and the like on pedastals, and knock them down when the religious leaders dont make their standard of living
which was and always be a mistake....
The head of man is Christ (Cor 11:1) Not the pastor.
Christianity has missed.
christianity did not miss my freind..its those who choose to put it before the meaning of life has missed!
christianity has served and is serving its purpose...you said it yourself...the disciples will all go on to do great things..and they did, and they have and the disciples will continue..despite all of those who want to see it otherwise..which is their oppinion, but i would like to stay on my path to my spirituality from how i see it...
and i am not flawed, as i see it and beleive it as an evolutionary process..i am not born directly into all knowing and all great..i have to strugle and live like the rest of you..
and with that you can also safely say that judaeism islam bhudism have all missed becasue they all have some fundamental flaw in the following, or the doctrine...no one is perfect my freind..but we have the right to make with our descisions and make up for misdeeds!
CG is the wisest person that I have encountered on this website. You should listen to him more.
never said i didnt....i respond to him more often than you do..i know that for a fact... :sarcastic
how else would we be having this disagreement if i didnt listen to him... :sarcastic :sarcastic
i choose not to follow his words as i beleive in my path, or the way i want to follow is the best way for me...but i always listen and read!
there you go again....you say never to pay attention to the pastor, but here we have it you are trying to convince me to follow cg for what he says...
aint it hypocritical?
dont follow..no follow..no wait...follow what he says now..no follow what vicky says later on..yadda yadda yadda....
if it rings true to your spirrit..the spirrit will guide you i beleive, or at least for me that is....until it does, "and i doubt it ever will"...cg and i will alwyas have a disagreement!
i believe in the lord..and i beleive he and only he will lead you into the right direction...and i pray to be lead in all things i do...because i have been taught that...and i listened to the words that were comming out of the book and the mouths of people speaking things for humanity!!!!
not for the congregation..
not for the convention...
not for sunday shcooll...
but for humanity!
live for your neighbor...anyone who doesnt do that to me is not living correctly!
jmo!

That is the job of the pastor, or teacher in any religion. But these days that seems not to be where the stress is put - in all faiths.

Accually I feel that most groups start of with righteousness, fire, and youthful zeal then somewhere along the way the become corrupted. Christianity started of Wrong And has still not got it right. If you study the parts of the new testiment that they don't read in church you will see that:
-the disciples went along with the same old jewish way initially, even forcing new converts to be circumsized. They continued all the jewish customs. Maybe thats why paul was choosen to clean up ther mess the disciples made.
-The disciples were even teaching that there would be no resurection. They brought science saying that you will have no body so what will be ressurected. Paul was persecuted for preaching that there would be a ressurection because this was just the corruptable body, we will have a new body.
-The early church taught that jesus was not God. The only person preaching otherwise was john who was as a result severely persecuted for putting jesus on par with god (his book starts out saying this Jn 1:1 and is the only gospel that says this). Jesus wasn't put on par with god until almost 300 years later when the Catholics voted on it- yep they took a vote on whether jesus was god. They also voted on stuff like whether there was a trinity. both votes were very close- Jesus almost wasn't god.
From the bumbling Disciples we went to the evil corrupt catholics; the bad in no other religion can be compared to the evil of the catholic era. They even call this era when the church ruled, the dark ages. They edited and changed around the bible to say what they wanted it to say. They even took it away from from the public so that they could effectively lie about its contents. No other religion has a history like this.
Now we are in the era of the millionaire pastors. Big churches next to small broken down houses. Pastor with three story houses and members who are stuggling and being evicted. This era is a diluted copy of the Catholic era.
Christianity is Religion. Religion over history has proven to be of little value.
Yes there are some good christians in the church but there are just as many good christians outside the church. We need to go back to what jesus was trying to show us. Find it and both christianity and budhism becomes obsolete. Jesus did not come to bring religion and neither did Siddhartha Gautama (buddha).
Freedom is a Must

Hey, I never said that you are to follow CG. I said you should listen to him more because from seeing some of your responces to him it is clearly just simple misunderstanding. CG and I disagree alot. But that just one was I learn from people. I hear their ideas then test it as much as possible to get as much as I can from it. Its not necessarily that I disagree but i cross examine to sqeeze out the facts. I fell that as the bible says Christ is in everyone therefore there is something I can learn from everyone.
Your last statement- Live for your neighbour is the essence of right living.
