The 15 yo has no family in Nassau (according to his story) and may have been living with a girlfriend.

The arraignment of a 15-year-old on a murder charge was postponed yesterday because a legal guardian or parent was not available for the court proceedings.

Magistrate Carolyn Evans set the matter down until noon today after ruling that a reasonable effort was not made to contact a guardian for the defendant.

"The law provides that only after reasonable effort is made to contact a guardian for the juvenile, the court can appoint a guardian. The court finds more effort must be made to contact a relative," Magistrate Evans said. If a guardian or relative does not appear on behalf of the 15-year-old today, Magistrate Evans said the court would appoint a guardian...

I hope this doesnt incite the wrong kind of any anti-illegal immigration flames...where is his parents?

You know it will.

His adult sister is in Abaco. From reading between the lines of the story, I think the kid may be lying to protect his parent who are illegal.

Maybe his parents are illegals living in Abaco or hiding in Nassau or left to go to the US or back home, leaving him in the care of the sister (and his hip ran away).

Either way, the boy was born here and socialized among us.

I hope most sensible people will see this as one case and look at all these murders on a case by case basis and not try to class all the victims and suspects in the same way....btw not only does he not have relatives here but he cant remember his girlfriends last name! WTF?

This case speaks volumes about the state of some of the young men in this country. Many of us think that most young people are like the ones we know and know of...going to school, act out every once and awhile and some go far astray. However there is a sect of young person who does not go to school (never have or dropped out), dont work, and have no close family ties...and those are the ones who do whatever to get by. They also are having children and leaving them to be raised the same way they were which is not raised at all.

If he is found guilty, I wonder if they will try him as an adult. If they try him as a juvenile it appears that 6 months is the most he will get!!!

Well. It goes to show you the type of parental supervision the young man had, to even think about killing someone at his early age. If his mother can't even show up to court to defend him, he has been thinking on his own for a while. Just that his thoughts have led him to murder.

True indeed. I agree with you. This is one of those cases that alot of people keep saying the parents should also be charged in. There is strong signs of either abandonment or lack of general concern.

So he will serve at most 6 months if charged as a juvenile, and then released as a non-status citizen? He has committed murder, even if he was born here in this country, he should not be granted citizenship on those terms and sent to Haiti, along with his parents if they can find them.

This may not play out well for a section of our society

believe me he wont get 6 months. he's gonna do some serious time (possibly 20 yrs max). i doubt that he was born here so whatever time he gets he will be deported to haiti.
