NASSAU, The Bahamas---At approximately 11a.m. on Tuesday, October 2 the S.C. McPherson Junior High School was closed and students and staff sent home due to the suspected presence of a propane gas odor on the school’s compound.

Mr. Lionel Sands, Acting Director of Education and a team of technicians from the Ministry of Public Works visited the school to investigate the matter. Mr. Marvin Bethel supplier of propane gas to the school was also called to the scene to assist with resolving the matter. All gas lines at the school were inspected to determine the origin of the odor.

The Ministry of Public Works technicians have resolved the matter and classes resumed on Wednesday, October 3.

The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture wants to assure the public that every precaution has been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff at the S.C. McPherson Junior High School.
