Those videos are the most awful things I have ever seen...truly disgusting.
I had no idea things like that even existed. And, my family has some hunters in it too...but as CG said, they hunt where the animals know the bush better than the humans..in a natural setting, and they do it for food.
This other stuff is one of the worst things ever. It's worse than humans beating each other senseless..my God, these are animlas and these people actually are proud that they kill them under these circumstances????

How low will people go to amuse themselves or boost their egos???

Oh, I am just sick.

same as bird shooters .. so no fence, no difference, still murder.

and they do it for food.

Really? If it is a sport, then its not for food, and most certainly in this day and age, less they are living on a remote island or stuck in some backwoods miles from any civilization, with no other means of food, then its not for survival.

Yes Rory, they are stuck in some backwoods...and they have no money...and they don't consider it sporting at all. They have a garden and they do the best they can. They are about 150 miles from a store and have very little money. Gas is expensive all over and they can't afford the $ to drive to a friggin store. Some of us chipped in a bought them "gift cards " for gas and made a fund for their childs education. What they do save they use to put their only child through college. Not everyone is just doing it for fun or doing it to be a big shot OR because they are too lazy to work.

So, how do you feel about this being a possible amenity for resort guests...or a backroom deal between politicians and developers couched in a so called BAIC project??? Ya think that might be a little worse???

Thats sad, so why dont they move and get a better job or something? How can they afford the bullets for the gun though? BTW survival means there is no other option, they have other options so it seems, such as they could hold off paying for the kid to goto college, let the kid get a job, and then the kid could save to pay their own way through college (thats what others like me did when we were dirt broke).

Quote :"Game preserves are called "CANNED" hunts for a reason!! The animals are fenced in, usually sick, starving, drugged or injured, to make the hunt easier! ALSO-- the people who run the hunts get paid in advance for the animal the "hunter" wants to kill that day, the more exotic or endanged the animal, the higher the price. How brave, dangerous, and macho can these "hunts" be when you pick out & pay for the animal in advance??

All of this is makes it possible for some LAZY, DISGUSTING, sloppy and RICH men or women to squeeze their fat asses into ridiculous-looking safari suits and walk or DRIVE around a closed-in area, making pre-selected, semi-tame animals back up against a fence to shoot at.

An interesting quote- "canned hunts are becoming as common as golf courses"
hmm...

here are a few videos that can give everyone a better idea of what "field clubs", "hunting clubs", "game preserves", and "canned hunts" REALLY are:

is it really "sport" to back a lion up against a fence and shoot at it??

this video has clips from a tv show that covered the issue, as well as authentic news clips, videos, and pictures of game preserves

saved the best for last- a bit longer, but most information- well worth the time spent watching it!!

The "kid" has two jobs. College is expensive. Moving costs money...lots of it.
They bought their home dirt cheap and it isn't worth any more today than it was then. It is sad. Alot of people are in their position. You know why you don't hear about them so much??? Cause they can't afford a computer. Phone calls are necessities...not a whim thing. How do they affors the ammunition?? Well, dad works for another farmer during the day and mom sells some of the produce they grow. Their plan is to take classes themselves when they are done paying for college. They hunt infrequently and do not waste anything. They are really good hearted people that would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it.

Now, back to the Game preserve. Why don't you answer my question about that. The game thing is for the amusement of vacationers. What are your feelings on that???? And how bout the political question too....any comment??

I dont think anyone should be hunting unless there is absolutely no other alternative for survival, so if the game preserve is for hunting, then that answers that question. ;)

Ok. But it still sucks, and it is still really fishy.
BTW Rory, if you are so against hunting how you feel about holding the animal still and killing it?
I'm sure all those pigs and chickens and cows that they use to make the fast food YOU been complaining about eatin' stay in 5 star hotels and get massages and soak in hot tubs before they stick the electric rod up their butt and kill'em. :sailing: :sailing: :sailing: :sailing: :sailing: :sailing: :sailing: :sailing:

There is no comparison between food people eat and importing animals to be hunted in a confined area for amusement. Not to mention the effect these non-native animals will have on the indigineous animals of Abaco. And the issue of why BAIC did not mention the developer connection is very disturbing.

There should be a park for preserving 'bahamian' animals such as the wild horse and porcine(both of which are on the path of extinction) instead of hunting parks. Then again, if other ways can work, especially in conjuncture with parks, they should be considered.

As I understand it the horse, and the porcupine, are not indigenous to the Bahamas but were brought here as well.

If they want hunting, organize a nightly stray dog hunt. Least it will clean up the streets :D

Jkiddin yah know!!!!

I think Bahamians should be allowed to put the obnoxious self serving foreigners in a confined spot and tap them with paintballs. Make them wear antlers and curly tails....Not the nice visitors though, the other ones:you know the one's I mean, the ones who wear the uniform of Hook and Tackle shorts, Tommy Bahama Shirts and really inappropriate shoes...like business laofers and treat everybody crappy-even other tourists- and just kind of look at everybody they see like they were zoo animals.

Just kidding also, but it's fun to imagine! It could be advertised as a weight loss camp.

I know you are kidding but that might no be a bad idea. Paint Ball is big in some parts of the States. We could have two armies and they could use our Jungle as a backdrop to a Vietnam style battle. Could make big $$$$$ for us. People would pay big to take part in a week-end long battle.
