I wonder if dey ga bring zebra and ting fa yinna ta hunt! LOL!!!

Seriously though, What about the environmental impact? Look what the lionfish and racoons did.

Forget Jamaica, Key West and Cuba. If investors succeed in leasing Abaco land for a game preserve, the destination could soon be competing with Kenya, South Africa and Botswana.

"We (the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation) are in early talks with a group of investors to lease about 5,000 acres of our land in Abaco for hunting grounds among other uses," said Chairman Edison Key. "There would likely be some importing of animals — we already have quail.

"One thing's for sure, there ain't gun be no lions."

This country's relatively mild climate, its proximity to the States and a glut of high-end hotel properties on Abaco suggest that deluxe hunting experience can be duplicated here. The absence of active animal rights groups may also have played a role in attracting the investment group now in talks with Key. The size of the parcel of land in Abaco also helps to create the illusion of wilderness — so key in re-creating the experience, even if only minutes removed from the amenities of neighboring resorts.
There are potential negatives, however.

The spectre of gunfire raises concerns around safety. The import of the animals themselves will likely stir concerns around their containment and the park's ability to minimize their impact on the ecosystem.

The past importation of invasive animal species like racoons have had a negative impact on the indigenous wildlife populations forced to compete with them. Ultimately, the government will have to weigh the potential for that damage against the economic benefits accruing to tourism.

If we must have such a place it could be a bird shooting preserve. As Edison Key said there are already quail there. I am sure there are doves and White Crown Pigeons. All they would have to introduce would be pheasants.

I was out West the other day at Clifton. I used to hunt there but they have made such a mess of the place and posted "No Hunting" signs. A place in Abaco for local hunters to shoot would be great. It would also be a great money maker for hunters from the US.

The company behind this is Discovery Land Company, the same company carving up Great Guana Cay. The preserve is supposed to be part of the guest amenities. I'm starting to feel like this company resembles a cancer that is spreading.

your opening a can of ring-neck pigeons here. People come out here a lot, in fact I saw a boy with a big plastic bag of dead birds walking down the beach the other day. They were shot on Mallis property.

Why not?

Bahamians that want a good shooting experience go to the States or South America. Why not spend some of that money here?

Guess you never been on a good Upland Bird hunt or a Pheasant shoot or a Dove hunt, not to mention a quail hunt with great retriever dogs, or pointers.
