Yours was a very good question. Asking was a sign of advanced intelligence.
A pat on the head, from a butt.

Thinking otherwise is ignorant - in fact, it is plainly childish.

You een gat no class. Truly.

Laing is a sad case just like Mother Pratt!!
Both of them should stay out of politics because it goes against what both of them stand for... I do think though that they would both work well in opposition to any govt but in govt they have to compromise too much!!
They are free to do much more in opposition!!

I never thought that I would ever find myself agreeing with Objective, however I agree with the sentiment about Laing. I am probably one of three people who have read his book on economic matters, and his arguments (although were right), were vapid, superficial, inconsequential, lightweight and unconvincing. He was right for the wrong reasons. It reminded me of someone getting lucky on a multiple choice test.

I do know that he struggled for a dollar after lost, and to me that is the acid test. If you can't make money, how can you intelligently talk money? As Bahamian resident Jim Unger says: the guidance counselor in high school wore a patched sweater, drove a bike to school, didn't have darned socks, yet he knew everything there was to know about getting a high paid job. It reminded me of Laing.

It was "light reading".

Why you and sunny don't stop dissin' my boy, eh? see what Geesus meant by a carpenter have to leave home to be appreciated? Both Lurker and Sunny are from Grand Bahama...so is Laing! Laing was able to beat Frankie Wilson and Pleasant Bridgewater...a lot of people were trying to get into the house for donkey years, some still tryin'...and Zhivargo is the Minister of State for finance. That is success by any stretch. Oh, and do not forget, after being broke when he lost in 2002, Zhivargo has amassed almost a million dolllars in assets, and in less than five years, as reported in his disclosure tings..Who says Zhivargo struggled to make money? Steups. Haters.

You know that I am an FNM supporter. And at least dems gat economists. All that I am saying is that Laing is a lil light on the feet when it comes to economics. Tingum gat more on da ball then Zhivargo. This has nothing to do with his ability to defeat political heavyweights or the fact that he is from Grand Bahama.

It is just that the gubment dems need in depth understanding of economics, especially now that the economy is headed south. As far as I can see, and in my own opinion, Zhivargo needs more exposure and rounding out to key economic concepts.

From what I have been able to overhear, observe and have been told, they all get their money the same way, through connections, tiefin' or swinging someone. Except for Frankie.Frankie is a wunderkind!

That's not being cold, that's the stone cold facts. Let's be real here, first of all Vago een never earn his way into a political seat, Hubi always put him in one period!! Let me see someone dispute that.

Secondly, he een no economist (not seriously anyway ) as much as he may like to think so.

I have more respect for those persons who may have lost but stood on their own two feet in doing so.

Well. To be quite fair, I have not heard much from Laing to suggest anything any which way. Have heard some from Ting-um, he is a bright lad, but a little shallow. I am jealous of his uncanny knack to switch a topic to something which is not of the issue. Maybe I will learn how to do that in the future.

Er yeah, dat...

Although I kid, I have nothing against Laing. I use the term "dat Laing boy" because I heard a bunch of old people in GBI refer to him that way over and over.

Like others I had high hopes when he won his seat the first time.

"An economist!", I said, "Finally! We will become the world's financial giant and get things in order!"

He did some good things, but I was disappointed. Very disappointed.

ZL is a fine man, but he needs a job at Barclay's London or Standard Charter Hong Kong.

The dude is overshadowed by other (louder) persons in his party (and yinna know jes what 'loud' person I talkin' bout).

Who more louder dan him?
:dgi:

If anything, Laing is the only Cabinet Minister who does talk, not only for himself, but on behalf of other Ministers.

Look, I een ga jump on da Laing bash bandwagon. However, we will have to see what he comes up with. A "town meeting" for Bahamian investors is an "iffy" start. Because, the department which is spearheading it, which comes under his ministry, is not putting forward much on "their" ideas on how to take FDI forward. So, what we will appear to have, and I am sorry to say this, is a town meeting on investments, with ideas being thrown about to give a few people a few ideas so they can run tell dat.

At best, it will be a good networking event and a place for a few tuck shop vendors, to get a little bit of action. Other than that, we have zilch.

Laing needs to show what he has in mind, and then let people hit at it and then, let them say what they feel on all, and then move forward.

So far, it is just them asking us what we want, and them not giving any input. I know we want consensus, but, they are Bahamians "the FNM Ministers", so this is their country as much as ours, which means they should have a say as well.

No plan sounds familiar to you?
:shhh:
