View Full Version : I'm tired of airports and planes
casualobserver 10-11-07, - 04:55 PM I dread travel nowadays. Airports are excruciating and quite possibly the slowest increment of time in the world.
Seat space on planes is smaller and smaller
Airfare is stupidly high and spartanly basic. Any creature comfort is in business class and that is only comfort by comparison. Most Bahamas / US airlines don't even offer business class.
What do we do?
Don't Travel?

I agree! Traveling is no longer fun. One does not feel like a traveler who has paid good money for an adventure. One feels more like a prisoner being transported. http://www.abcwebworx.com/smilies/people/people129.gif

Sometimes you have to travel for biz. I haven't taken a vacation in years and if I did it would be on a boat, but I'm on an airplane often for work.

Change Careers? :D
Other than that, you are stuck with what it is. Unless you get your own private plane. When you do, please let me know. :)
ain_me 10-11-07, - 05:20 PM Didnt they have a ferry that went from the Bahamas to Miami? Why not bring that back and the plane tickets might go down?

Anyone ever try Imperial Majesty cruise ship? What's that like?
Sunnyjohn 10-11-07, - 05:26 PM Until the cost of oil goes down the cost of jet fuel will remain high.
Until TPTB feel we have a handle on terror, getting through airport security will remain tedious.
I feel fa ya'. We are driving out of town tomorrow to avoid the airport.

I know someone here that uses the boat to go to the US sometimes, says it is great, but it does take a long time to get there.
NetConnect 10-11-07, - 05:53 PM Used to be a Fast Ferry (Hydrofoil) from West Palm to Freeport. Doubt they are in existance anymore. Last time I went, it broke down coming back to pick us up and we had to do a cruise ship to Ft. Lauderdale, what a mess, then a taxi back to WPB. Got home at 4 am. Had to be at work at 7 am.
I like Western Air for local flights.

Aww so that's what happened to that.
I took the Fred Olsen Express which was a wave peircing catamaran to Miami. Several days later the company called us telling us that they had abruptly stopped the service and that they was booking us the return trip on Discovery.
bahamiangoddess 10-11-07, - 06:39 PM Discovery still does the Fort Lauderdale Freeport route. Tickets are $215.00 with three meals. Dinner going and Breakfast and Lunch coming back (buffet)
or 192.00 without meals. The ship is pretty big (max. 1200 passengers)
Sails at 4:45 p.m and reached at 10:00 pm (U.S Visa needed)
The trip is 5 hours and can be hectic depending on the time of year you travel. A word of advice don't travel at back to school, Easter,Thanksgiving and christmas.
The only thing I do not like about the cruise is that Bahamians are not allowed to disembark until the one day cruise passenger (those who came with the ship) are off. U.S Immigration is slow and the line is long.
But for relaxation, it is ok, you have the Casino, bingo games, karaoke shows, movies, internet cafe, and a free show at 9 p.m with a comedian and a singer, pool and two dining rooms. If you don't want to be bothered with seeing anyone you can also rent a cabin for the duration of the cruise and order you meal in your room.

So true, I have been on 14-20 flight so far this year and this would be my sentiments exactly.
casualobserver 10-11-07, - 09:58 PM I talkin' from Nassau though. I don't want to fly to Freeport only to take boat to Fort Lauderdale. I'd just fly to Lauderdale!
