Second Chance 10-18-07, - 08:24 PM Hey guys. I just wanted to get your view on Capital Punishment. We've argued about it for so long (and in some cases rallied for and against it), but nothing's happening...
1/ Do you believe in it?
2/ Why?

Explain why some people are in Fox Hill for swearing and 400 plus have not gone to trial and 144 are out on bail for murder.
Let the non violent out of our jails, would only be 500 then. Put the 144 in jail and hang them all. Send a message.
Rock_1 10-18-07, - 09:37 PM Like the fella on 'MY Five Cents' said: Bring back the hanger! But on a more serious note, more harsh punishments must be metted out to criminals for the crimes that they committ. Imprisonment is supposed to be a form of correction, however, those who intentionally take the life of another must be made examples of.
We treat criminals as if they are the victims when it comes to this issues. But what about the acual victims who are dead and buried? No one looks after their right to live that was violated. Hang them, and dont give them an opportunity to repeat the offence.
When the criminals are not punished accordingly, the people lose faith in the law and its enforcement agenies. Then the people will start taking matters into their own hands and things will get worse.
NetConnect 10-18-07, - 09:52 PM So, Hang a few already on 'Death Row'.
Make the Bahamas church mothers whose babies are there waiting take up and notice. You do not think that the reason these boys ain't swinging from the gallows is because the goverment.
I think the Church is behind these convicted killers not be hanging.

Good point. The church seems to find its way into issues such as these. But what is their stand? The church loves to point the finger and say dont do this, but at the same time they need to suggest what to do. Despite this the govt is still in charge.
They need to buck up and stand for the people. I'm sure someone has exhausted all of the appeals and it is on the books. So like you said start hanging.
By the way, we need to revamp these laws so that the P.C doesnt have the final say. We might as well give up our independence.
NetConnect 10-18-07, - 10:09 PM You mean, after six years here, I am starting to make sense? Tell my wife that, and she is Bahamian.
We just have too many issues right now. The high cost of freakin everything, landlord calling he wants his rent, BTC cutting off phone service, Flooding here and every out Island, GBI going down the tubes, and on and on.
Where was I, Oh yeah, and a straight guy can't get a date because 28% of the women are Bi-sexual.
Shoud not have mentioned that, I am married. But, Sweethearting is legal here.

Problem is most women are now someone elses sweetheart, gay or Bi. Tough to get a date these days
Rock_1 10-18-07, - 10:34 PM Theres enough women to go around. I was once told that there is 10 women to 1 man (dont know how accurate that is but they may a bit less) . Plenty in the church though thats ripe for the pickens!!! (I know thats wrong but its true)

2/ Why?
No I do not believe in Capital Punishment.
Because killing after the fact is murder.

what if one to be hanged is your child
What if after they are hanged they find he or she is inocent.
Objective thought 10-19-07, - 07:32 AM No I do not believe in Capital Punishment.

You GBLTs are so mixed up!
You think there is nothing wrong with being gay and what ever else but you care about cold-blooded murders!! AMAZING!!
Well I don't care what you think. The bible that I try to live by says that the gov't does not bare the sword in vain so you go figure!
I would not like to live in a gay city, tooo much crap!!!
Objective thought 10-19-07, - 07:52 AM what if one to be hanged is your child

If it's my child and he/she is guilty, I will pull the rope myself!!!
If one is innocently hanged those who falsely accused him/her are responsible, not the judge or jury!!
The innocent suffer for the guilty all the time..But this is why the judges can now use their discretion according to the PC's ruling. If they are not sure then they can sentence them to life in prison!

Personally, I don't give a flying hoot.
I believe in the law.
I am bound by the interpretations of the law and fact, by the judge and jury...
I think we need to discuss how law is interpreted instead...
because this topic is old and continuously recycled with no new information.
Actually, saying I agree or disagree does not change what actually happens.
pharoah 10-19-07, - 08:44 AM I am against capital punishment. Why? because the very notion that we kill because killing is wrong is just illogical and dehumanizing...Second: the law is an ***, and generally the law is for the rich, therefore, usually, the poor and blacks folks are put to death. Man is just to corrupt and imperfect to give them such a power!!
