The Bahamas Communications and Public Officers Union and the Bahamas Communications and Public Managers Union [BPMU] are refusing to back down from their demands of 4.5 percent of the total annual revenue for the Bahamas Telecommunications Company for 2005, 2006 and 2007 in a profit sharing arrangement.

As I understand it BTC is a public corporation. It profits, if there are any, are to go to the Treasury to benefit all.

Dont the workers get paid and paid well? :dgi:

"We are not settling for pennies. The corporation made $46 million in profits [in 2005] and we contributed to that. The least they could do is give us our share of that to share among our employees."

"We don’t care how this current board feels, the employees are going to get their fair share of that $46 million," he added.

How much more would BTC have made had yinna not tief up some.

Go lookin for them bad apples. Ya'll already get your cut. They dun teif yinna share of da profits!

but how they say it-so demanding like BTC must concede, like that 46 million profit has nothing to do with paying customers, like its their money and I thought pay was based on their actual work and skill set--that most of them know they half arse neway, not the performance of the company...mr hanna isnt well spoken either too much redundance and an unprofessional tone in his rantings.

all this in a world where people dont get 4.5% raises...only in The Bahamas...Hubert needs to check these people.

Taf,

These suckas don't even WANT to link raises with performance evaluations!

Who gets a raise without a performance evaluation???

"We don’t care how this current board feels, the employees are going to get their fair share of that $46 million," he added.

He declared that under no circumstances would the union agree to the profit sharing arrangements be linked to performance appraisals.

They want to share in profits, they need to take that money and hire more technicians to keep people phone on, the service at BATELCO is horrible. They are paid very well but offer poor service.

They don't answer the phone and whenever they answer, the person out to lunch.

Cell phones always ain working or the system down, two days later my text message just reach.

They must have problems finding people's houses, because they can never reach to fix your home phone.

Their internet services sucks.

Dear BTC employees and union bosses,

This letter is to address the issues surrounding your recent demonstrations/ "Go slow" and request for a share of $46 million profit from the 2005 fiscal year.

As you are aware, during the recovery effort after the hurricane in Grand Bahama, local BTC employees were so slow to act that we had to contract Jamaican telecommunication line men. The people of GBI actually tell tales of rejoicing when they saw the Jamaican linemen as they knew that meant they would get phone service that day. The contract for those linemen ate up about 10% of that profit.

Additionally BTC employees make more on average than police officer, RBDF marines, the teachers and the nurses. We had to give Ida Poitier and her teachers a raise last year. Our school average is a D-. We still have a handful of teachers in the Family Islands making the same wage since 1980.

The nurses also requested a raise as they hadn't seen any monies in quite some time. As you know there is no phensic or blood pressure medication in PMH or the Rand. Please be careful out there speeding around in those BTC trucks on your private business as we would not want you to crash and end up in Emergency, especially on one if the Family Islands were the nurse has decided to quit and take up a career as a waitress at Atlantis.

Those police, teachers and nurses got 15% of that $46m.

We also suggest that you contact the three or four employees of BTC that were arrested last year for absconding with company funds. They along with others who were not caught, got 50% of the $46M.

The recent tragic events surrounding an American entertainer were very costly. The security provided by the RBPF and new outfits/hats/gloves for the political wives was very expensive. It caused us to have to increase judicial spending, put a coat of paint on the Supreme Court building, fix that broken toilet in the court bathroom and buy a new wig for the Chief Justice. We could not afford to look shabby on international TV.

A small portion was found behind the toilet of an MP.

As for the rest of the monies, well, you know how it is in the Bahamas. "Teif from Teif- God smile."

Additionally the rest of us normal people who are afforded raises only after a thorough performance evaluation would like to know where we can put in an application for a job at BTC. You guys have a sweet gig.

In Love and Service,

The Bahamian people.

I say privatise and let them see what it is like to work for a real boss, they would have a fit. These set live in a world unto themselves and have no clue how "sweet" they have it. I beleive that 95% of them would have a mental breakdown if they had to work in the real world!
