View Full Version : Hurricane Frances
Melody 09-01-04, - 07:48 AM Rory I was at an emergency meeting ., Please do not downplay the severity of this hurricane. This will probably be the worst Nassau as ever seen. for get what you hear on the US stations and on those sites. Please Please pay attention to the Met office reports. They are focused on the Bahamas.
They have described this hurricane as a big, big and wide system. They predict that we will feel winds up to 145 and more in gust.
Please remember that we are4 flat. One of the comments in the last night meeting was that most of the hills that were in nassau have been cut down so if we have a surge of 15 or more feet water from the North will meet water in the south. That means that we will be under water.
My friends this is not to scare you but to heighten your awareness of the damage that this storm can and probably will do to our islands. Our Electrical structure is fragile to say the least. If michelle caused that much havoc in 2001 and that was a category 1 imagine a category 4 or even 5.
The key to this storm is to prepare. Help your neighbours prepare.
There are people in the community who can not afford to prepare, please identify them and see what you can do to assist.
Contact Social Services, The Urban Renewal Project offices in your area The churches if they can't help they will know who can.
Remember in these times we are our brothers keepers. Share what you have.
Call your nearest police station if you need assistance they will know who to call .
UPDATE: Report from Turks & Caicos - they are 35 miles from the eye::
-------------------------
REPORTS FROM HAM RADIO OPERATORS INDICATE THAT GRAND TURK ISLAND HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING 60 TO 75 MPH...WINDS DURING THE PAST HOUR AND SOME DAMAGE TO TREES AND ROOFS.
--------------------------
Maybe they havent had the worst yet.
Ejluv 09-02-04, - 02:06 AM To all of My Bahamas Issues Friends in Beloved Bahamas.
Hurricane Charley came through Punta Gorda Florida and devastated my family's homes and not much left standing still. I know that this hurricane has much larger bands and that no matter where the eye is that Bahamas is going to be experiencing some mighty high winds and storm surges. I will be praying feverishly for all of you to be safe and the loss will be minimal in lives and lands. I hope all of you have taken the necessary precautions and stocked up as much as possible. Take care and I will be checking in. I have started working two full time jobs and haven't been in much but you all are never far from me since you dwell in my heart. Will be thinking of all of you through this time. Feel free to email me as I will be wanting to know how all of you are.

islandgyal 09-02-04, - 01:48 PM yeah, latest on weatherbug shows the eye blasting south eleuthera by 2:00a friday morning, and nassau dead-on several hours later.
methinks that rory is playing cocky just to be the devil's advocate, and the life of the party :sailing: ...
storm trackability charts at wunderground.com/tropical are awesome and terrifying at the same time.
god bless

Most of the reports show that the eye will be passing a few miles north of Nassau which means that we will feel Hurricane force winds and allot of rain.

I've installed a direct RSS feed from the NOAA on www.daBahamianting.com (http://www.dabahamianting.com), which simplifies your search for the latest info on the hurricane. It's in the column on the right and includes direct links to updated advisories, discussions, probablities, maps and charts.
Updates are automatic and immediate.

Delroy 09-02-04, - 05:55 PM nice site, yorick ... is zns down, though? can't get the live feed from your site or znsbahamas.com right now.
It's up now and also the live Radio.
I have added links to the top of the Bahamas Issues pages to the news feeds here in the Nassau for all the international visitors on the site today and for Bahamians living overseas to keep up to date about what is going on.
I would like to thank Yorick for getting us a good access to these feeds and ZNS Bahamas for providing the coverage.
Many of us here in Nassau may not have internet access very long as this storm gets closer but for persons overseas you can continue here on Bahamas Issues as the site is hosted overseas and will stay online.
God bless us all.
fletchgal 09-02-04, - 06:06 PM I've been getting good audio from daBahamianting site -- a really good one - thanks on behalf of myself in Toronto and my sister/cousins in Britain who are also using the site to keep up to date on what's happen'
Take care all and batten down - it sounds like a fierce one this time.
Delroy 09-02-04, - 06:17 PM Rory,
Do you have a link to a live Web Cam feed of Nassau?
Many persons are requesting it and I believe that you showed me one before.
lukku cairi 09-02-04, - 08:59 PM Y'all in my prayers. Good luck, may God keep watch over you, and may Buddha smile upon you with clean teeth!
Try keep your cool during the cleanup, too - that's the worst part in my opinion.
