Hurricane Frances is heading towards the Bahamas. Currently 135 m.p.h. and it's a Category 4. We may get it by Thursday.

I hope all of our friends throughout the Caribbean in the path of this dangerous storm will remain safe. Remember to purchase hurricane supplies as a matter of urgency - batteries for flashlights, canned food, drinking water, medical supplies (a month's supply of any prescription medicine is recommended), etc. Remove all loose objects from around your premises (you should have by this time of year trimmed all coconut trees and other loose limbs).

If you have hurricane shutters, be prepared to put them up; if you don't have any shutters, you need to get to your local building supplies store as soon as possible and purchase wood to put over your windows, before the rush.

There might also be a rush on drinking water and if you wait too long to get your supply, stores might run out (prices unfortunately have gone up in the past during a hurricane, due to demand).

It's useful to fill up some receptacles with tap water in case the water supply is cut off (this way, you'll have water to flush toilets and bathe with).

Fill up your car with gas, as gas stations might run out.

Good luck and I pray for no injuries or loss of life.

Thanks Fay

I heard about this storm today and it doesn't look good.
We should all take this very serious as this really isn't a good time to get hit from a category 4 hurricane and I even heard that this one is expected to increase in straight to possibly a category 5.

Here are two more sites that are very good.

http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/

http://www.intellicast.com/

Keep your eye's open folks! Heads up! This might be a bad one!

As things stand now, August 29, 2004, the worst of it might just pass north of New Providence. But time will tell! It is still to early to tell 100%. Check into one of those sites, or Delroy's, often!!!! OFTEN!!!!

And heed Bahamas Writer's warning! Get ready - don't wait too long!

Hope for the best- but prepare for the worst. As it stands right now (hopefully it will change) some parts of the Bahamas will get hit, and hit hard! Pray, chant, or whatever your religion requires. If you have no religion, send them good thoughts.

Come on, its not _all_ fire and brimstone. Make sure you prepare, but during Michelle I spent most of the day outside, quite an adventure. Mitch or Flyod (can't remember which) we spent on the roof of Atlantis until the winds became too strong.

Weather is a strange and amazing thing. Get out there and experience it!

Hurricanes should NEVER be taken lightly, especially with the strange weather system changes that are now occurring around the world. I just came back from a visit to the U.K. where the Cornish hamlet of Boscastle was hit by sudden and very destructive flooding. It was a miracle no lives were lost.

I experienced the wrath of Hurricane Betsy in 1965, when I first arrived in the Bahamas, as well as many other hurricanes and tropical storms since then, so I am very much aware of the need to prepare well in advance and to take the necessary precautions. We should never be too complacent when it comes to the forces of nature.

I agree!
The list of those killed and left homeless over the centuries would also concur.
We don't even have to look to far back. Look what Charley did in Florida just a few weeks ago!

You was on the roof at Atlantis during Michelle hey Baboon? Go try it in Frances , make sure make your will this is a category 4 Hurricane We won't even find your shoes.

Atlantis has not seen a real strong Hurricane there is no guarantee it might be there afterwards.

You sound very young and foolish.

Does anyone remember a hotel in the USA where the occupants had a hurricane party and all lost their lives. I think this was in 1939 or 1949.

Persons like baboon need to turn on the weather channel and watch the storm stories.

Hurricane shelter are being activated and personell is being deployed to the family of islands today.

The National Emergecy committee is being activiated get serious everyone all systems are go for this hurricane. Start those preparations and listen to your local radio stations.

Parents make sure your kids know what the plan is and teach them how to remain safe. This is no playing outside weather. While others prepare you need to keep them close to home get some games to keep them occupied.

If you plan on volunteering you need to call in today. Secure your personal properties before coming out to assist.

Get your hurricane tracking map and get those supplies. If you are a single mother you need to start putting those shutters up now if you are going to need assistance. If the storm turns you can take them down but if it comes you will not be scabbling looking for someone to assist. It will get hectic as the storm nears and help will be scarce.

God Be With Us

You were dropped on your head repeatedly as a child, weren't you? Read my post again, I said that I was on the roof of Atlantis before Mitch/Floyd (memory fails me, must be too old) hit. When the winds got unsafe, we came down and drove home.

You sound very young and foolish.
I try, thanks for noticing.

I hope they at least got a Darwin Award (http://www.darwinawards.com/)

I could not agree more with this. If you happen to have a solid house on high land, once the storm is over, get out there and lend a hand to the people not quite so lucky with their accomodations.

well apparently we will not be getting the category 4 winds in Nassau, as usual, more like 70-100mph.

Believe me Rory, from what I have heard and seen so far these guys don't have the slightest idea where this hurricane is going.

Yes, but from history of the past 10 years, we have not got on head on, it has always missed Nassau, and hit the other islands bad. We just have that shallow water to throw it off. But you never know, just the probability of us getting the center is highly unlikely.
