I don't know about you guys but I am tired of my child being out of school in September. Why is it that they begin repairs in August what happened to June and July and such major repairs not like painting or anything but repairs that actually need tractors and heavy duty equipment.
Soooo either my child is out of school for an additionally week or two (or three or four) or I run the risk of something happening to them while the government carries out these late repairs and we wonder why students are getting such poor exam results. When the repairs are finished there will be some fundraiser and then staff meeting and then a strike and then something else...... will it ever stop. Will our children ever be given a chance to actually learn something in school

Well, Roker, Heaven help us! It's like an old Bahamian thing to wait until the last minute to do anything! Sometimes it seems that we would have something urgent to do and would simply not do it until some disaster happens and FORCES us to act!

I used to go to school during the old UBP days. Don't recall this kind of tardiness during those days.

Hope I am wrong, but it seems that nothing short of a brain transplant would help us to become a people who can plan things carefully and execute our plans in a timely manner!

they should hire a contractor in the summer...
and make it into a job corp for mature kids who want to learn a craft to join in!

So they should! They could turn it into a learning experience for those kids that want to get into the good money-making field of construction, and they could get the schools fixed up too. That would be "killing two birds with one stone" kind of thing.

Sometimes I wonder if there are many of today's young people who are interested in learning trades like building construction, auto and electrical repairs!

Some years ago I talked with an elderly mechanic at a leading auto dealership. He said they used to employ a number of young men fresh out of school, but they would be on the job for only a month or two. Didn't seem as if they wanted to learn a trade! He wondered what would happen when all the older mechanics retired.

Can you imagine!? With all these cars on our roads, who would be doing the repairs to them?

Government better start this community service program to instill discipline in our young people now, to avoid importing a multitude of foreign workers to repair our cars and buildings, etc.
