Yeah.....so, I just found out today (by chance) that Alicia Keys (ONE of my fav. artists) is having a concert here in Nassau (@ the Cove, Atlantis) on Saturday, November 3rd. I was shocked....but happy to hear about it a week before it's scheduled to go down. Ya know? Newayz.....I searched the internet for about an hour tryna see where I can get some tickets. Couldn't find anything. Which is typical enough for Bahamian promoters & event planners. Sooooooo......I had someone ring in a favor for me....and ask around the big-wigs at Atlantis to see where we could scour up some tickets. And this was basically the response....

"That concert isn't for Bahamians. It's for the (highfalutin) clientele that Atlantis is flying in for this performance."

What kinda BS is that? I know how this is gonna sound, but there is no way a 50+ y/o white man is gonna appreciate the opportunity to hear Alicia live....more than me. NO WAY. Unless his name is Clive Davis.

I wonder just how many exclusive concerts these people have? This is almost enough to push me over the edge. Why is it that they're cool with pushing "culture" (and I use that term very loosely) artists down our throats en masse...but we're shut out from hearing some more 'polished' acts?

I don't like reggae as much as everyone else......and I, for damn sure, don't wanna see no reggae artist. And I don't wanna see no damn soca artist. Why can't I see Alicia? I gotta be a millionaire for that?

BULL$#!+

I AM OFFICIALLY VEXED......and packing my bags for Toronto.

talk to atlantis peeps and take your chances ... alicia keys is playing for a private party. it's not a concert per se.

then again, paradise island hasn't been about the polaris room for years now, eh? i remember seeing some great concerts there, back in the day.

quite apropos

me and my sister wanted to go so bad to see Jill Scott (http://www.1albums.com/mp3-album/153837/Jill_Scott/The_Real_Thing/)on Friday- but we couldnt get tickets! cus you see I love her and on my day off I like to go to a concert or a nice restaurant! (hell we was gah fly to vegas to see her earlier this month till we find out she was coming to miami- (I will fly to see who I like! in undergrad me and my friend drove 4 hrs to see anthony hamlton and that was one of the best drunken weekends of my life!)

well neway,it was suppose to be a paid event(cus I checked her website practcally everyday for updates) but I guess they changed their mind so Hot 105 sponsored it and it became a private event and the only way you could go is if you listen to win from HOT 105(so they said)-I was a slave to the radio-- man I was frantic and damn near tears everyday cus I really wanted to go...me and my sister een never been on the phone so much in our lives- giving each other moral support- it was pitiful she call the man in charge of promotions at the station email the big wig(- man I was even listening to the Quiet Storm till 3 4 day in the morning-even called her sudgy friend who knew somebody who worked there--NOTHING!...to make a long story short something tell her to call the venue and they was like be there b4 8--because the rsvp list is full--mind it start raining we had a flat hard rock is 1/2 hour from where we live--I wanted to cry (again) I was cursing and I was like bump this I dont wanna go no more(cus I told her to change the tire two weeks ago when she got back from DC!)...so neway, a good samartan changed the tire for her and we got there- I didnt like what I had on so I changed in the car and honey the girls were out! and when we got in the joint at 913 she was singing the Real thing! (I ran in cus I was so excited--the place was packed!)

- bailey's sponsored the event so drinks for free all night(I had five bailey martini and I was good to go lol)- the event was free we paid for nothing! man it was the best- Jill performed for 2 hrs-jeff Bradshaw was there to (I love him) then after (it was a club-Spirits) the dj was playing old school stuff and we just danced along- jill was dancing right beside me and perfect stranger shorty doo wop! :) she's cool and down to earth I really love her now...I remember buying her first cd for 14.99 at BestBuy or Borders (both on apalachee) in 2000! man it was a dream come true! We took pictures witht he promoter chick who got us in santos wednesday night (really nice girl) drunk blow air kisses we was just laughing lol After that we went in the casino and signed up for the player's club we got our twenty dollars and went to the 10cent slots, holding on to the machines just singing our lil hearts out and walking aimlessly about till our drinks weared off and went for some bbq and souse then to check out the brazilian night at the ethipioan spot(but it was over) and then we went home...it was a good night...glory!

All this to say: if you wah go dont give up hope- D-BO the event like we did-let them [your Bahamians brothers and sisters who manning the door ;)] tell you no when you get there! we stepped out on fate and we went and had a good time- FOR FREE! plus when she comes in the spring we going again! and im writing a blog on my myspace page about this whole episode entitled: Fuk Hot 105!...they lost me I use to listen to them since 10th grade and they treat me so bad- and then to see all them people in VIP who didnt look lke they was suppose to be there or care about Jill we are true fans we was suppose to be up there!...I een complaining just saying, God is good!

step out on faith, wear your best, put a lil rouge on and GO! (though I really dont like alicia keyes-sheen really no star to me- my friend saw her live in atl when she toured with b and missy)...do what you do!

my love is deeper...tighter...sweeter...flyer...higher...lol man I woke up singing Epiphany saturday morning (with a slight headache)I take charge of the ship moving with my back and my hips like my ancestors did...lol amen!

im so long winded! going to see M.I.A tomorrow-im so excited!

That's why all o' we young aspiring Bahamians need to:

- hurry up and make about $100-150 million each, plus enough extra to buy up/renovate downtown to make it like South Beach.

- Get airlines to fly direct flights from LA to Nassau on an hourly basis

- Make Hollywood wonder how come all of these young rich Bahamians are showing up all of a sudden

- start getting Hollywood-types to hang out with we "local celebs"

- get in/on People Magazine, Vogue, E! Entertainment, etc on a consistent basis, which makes The Bahamas not just the next chic destination, but a solid staple for the celebs to live here

- then we can bum-rush those parties no problem and tell these hotel peeps 'bout their behinds in the process

Making millions in the Bahamas involves:

-Fishing for and transporting dem square groupers
-Offshore banking
-Technology related enterprises with a global consumer market
-Real Estate
-Oh yeah, growing the green-kind o' dem square groupers

I've always wondered why the Bahamian government doesn't push a couple million in the pockets of couple of us more boisterous young-uns and set us loose on Hollywood.

THAT would be perfect advertising for The Bahamas. Put me right up there telling People mag that Halle Berry's baby is really for me and not dat white boy (Not that there's anything wrong with her having a baby for a white dude), but you get my point.

You would think that the Ministry of Tourism would get the hint from the entire Anna Nicole thing or the Lincoln Bain and Rita Cosby thing.

It's called FREE (well not exactly free) advertising for The Bahamas. The eyes of the US are on Hollywood and I think I could handle a bit of partying with Paris, Lindsay, Angelina, Britney (oh, have I got a tongue lashing for her regarding dem silly decisions she made), Kim Kardashian, Gabrielle Union, et al (note that you have officially made it when you can be identified by your first name only).

Hollywood needs some color up in there right up and now anyway...ifyaknowhatImean.

Hold on one sec, let me see if I still have that email with Alicia Keys Fan hotline number in it (I do have it honestly, I'm not bullsh1tting). Let me row her Bahamian style.

Darnit, the number in the email and on her website is 917.934.3319, but it's one o' dem promotional hotline things that has expired already.

In any event, LL Cool G, you know what to do...time to get that bank account flowing.

LOL!!! Totally agree with you on this!!!
By the way you don't need hundreds of millions to make Bay St. like South Beach. South Beach is just a few of clubs, restaurants and antiquated hotels!
And there are more legal ways to make big money in the Bahamas than the four things you listed!
But I agree its time for Bahamians to own their country!!!

Impressive...
I have to keep my eyes on you. you does be in the know...
I was just about to explain this particular concert.
But anywhos...
there is a program call atlantis live that brings in mega stars to perform. The tickets are available to anyone who can afford it. However, this is an entirely seperate event.

I am shocked though. And I'm not gonna accept this as the norm, as everyone else does. They are in MY country. And woe be to them when I get there on Saturday and they attempt to turn me away. I will need to be escorted off the premises. BELIEVE ME!
