The strain of the HIV virus which predominates in the United States and Europe has been traced back to Haiti by an international team of scientists.

The strain passed from Haiti to the US in about 1969 before spreading further, says the team in the Proceedings of the US National Academy of Sciences.

They hope knowing this could help find a cure for HIV, which can lead to Aids.

"HIV-1 group M subtype B" predominates in the US, Europe, large parts of South America, Australia and Japan.

Now scientists say they know where it came from.

Black people around the world ALWAYS knew where the HIV virus came from:
from medical labs belong to white people. Now the question should be asked, how it got to Haiti and Africa...hmmm

AIDS Learns to fly (My Subtitle -- blame it on Air Canada)

In 1981 the first reported AIDS case (by that name) was recorded by the Center for Disease Control. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency (Acquired because you get it from someone else). The case was known as patient "Zero", an Air Canada steward from Montreal, who died in 1984. He contracted the disease as a result of sex with other men. (Wisconsin Dept of Health and Family Services, Division of Public Health – Center for Disease Control – The 20th Century, with Mike Wallace, A&E Television Network, The History Channel – AIDS, What the Government Isn’t Telling You, Dr. Lorraine Day, Rockford Press, Palm Desert, CA. – WI State Journal, 6/23/99.)

I'll bet money somebody is going to take this article and use it as propaganda.

*sigh*

His suspicion is that it probably arrived in Haiti from the Congo via Haitians who were working in Africa during those years.

Canewry,

It most likely was a viral mutation- a harmless virus that infected only certain primates that mutated and started in on humans.

Now HOW that bad boy mutated, you could pull out all the conspiracy theories.

Ah, I remember that story Lurker...but, um, these people saying it came from Haiti...I guess home boy's (patient zero) got it from older Haitian men...hmm
I find it amazing these people always blaming black people for things...
and there is another theory that it started in Africa too.

Well of course Sunny it will be used for propaganda; that is why this article was purposefully created, to be used as such.

Lets go with your theory then: a viral mutation infecting certain primates...(even though the purposeful experimentation sounds more believable to me)...How on earth it got to Haiti...what animal they have so, that the rest of the Caribbean does't have...nah Africa has all kinds of animals...who knows what could have happened...(pointing to my experimenting comment) but even after years of study suggesting the virus came about in the early 80s to now suggest that it came earlier during the 60s by the poorest black nation in the hemisphere...gal, I smell a rat...

Many of the deadly viruses have originated from the African Continent (eg. Ebola), its a known fact, and AIDs has been said to be one of them - I think it came from Cuba though :D

All jokes aside, its not a laughing matter as its a very deadly disease.
I dont understand, with all the money in the world, and the fact that we have people that can make machines fly into space, light come from a bulb, and cold air blow out of a small box in the wall, why they cant get a cure for AIDs, Cancer, etc .. its just sad. :(

ahh, so they are saying Haiti now? Then perhaps it came from France .. ;)

Why? Becasue money tends to stay healthy. How wastes money on the sick?

When HIV started attacking "normal people' money poured in.

We will cure Cancer, AIDS, diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc, when we change the way we look at disease and health.

Stem Cells are you future!

No, not money itself, though money helps keep the people that are doing the research alive to do the research (food, gas, expenses, etc). But the fact that humans can do all of that I mentioned, and more, but we have yet to see a cure for these major illnesses. :(

True.

Unless someone puts the money in research though, it does not get there.

Pharmaceutical companies usually provide the lion's share, but for drug research, fixes but not always cures.

University research centers usually look for the cures, but they are at the mercy of funding dollars. Bio-tech companies usually help.

California just poured $3Billion into stem cell and biotech research. Singapore is HUGE in biomedical research.

Perhaps soon we will realize a cure for cancer is just as important as a fast CPU.

There is no money in a cure Rory...
More money in just treating the illness.

sux teeth...
Sunny, if that were true, Haiti's population would have shrunk drastically by now...at least by an unexplained 2 percent from 1969 to 1986 or there about.
