Sunnyjohn 11-07-07, - 01:52 PM Have you ever shopped at TESCO?

It is a huge chain in the UK (and around the world) that is much like Walmart. they are in everything from food to internet.
Tesco is opening stores in the Western USA under the name Fresh and Easy.
They are putting some of the stores in under-served (poor, minority) communities.

Well, the Fresh and Easy stores are more of a competition to Trader Joe's and Whole Food's.
Fresh and Easy sells inexpensive organic and natural foods with no frills.
I am glad they are putting some of the stores in ghetto neighborhoods. They need better nutrition choices. The CEO said people underestimate the buying power of people in those neighborhoods

Oh yes! Shopped there many times when I lived in the UK. If you could not find it in Tesco then you did not need it! :)

I ddnt look at the lnk...the ceo is right...nutritrious healthy eating can curb some of the ailments that have many of us dropping like flies...apt times there is no variety in these communities(famil dollar, walgreens and a winn dixie or whatever chain grochery store has concentration in your region) so people (disadvantaged) have to go to other communities to get what they want...there is a need and im glad someone is trying to fill that void...
bahamiangoddess 11-07-07, - 02:37 PM Yes, shopped there while living in the U.K, even though I was spending pounds, the prices were ok, especially for bread, less than .50 us cents for a loaf. Meat was expensive, I ate a lot of chicken wings, it was the cheapest part of the chicken. I had to pluck a lot of feathers but the prices were reasonable.
The majority of the brands they sell are totally different from what I was used to, but I agree they have lot of healthy choices and organic foods.

We customs duty too high...
androsann 11-07-07, - 05:30 PM Aaaaah Tesco's! I grew up with them and whenever I return to the UK it is one of the first places I visit. They have some amazing deals at times, last time I was over there I bought ramen noodles for the equivalent of 5c each! In fact when we came back we had 4 suitcases full of groceries from Tesco.
At one time, Supervalue used to sell some of the Tesco own brand products at grossly inflated prices though!

I think they are knock offs (especially the Home Depot).
