Foreign Investment Key To Economic Resurgence

President of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, Dionisio D’Aguilar, is urging the government to “hurry up” and get the big foreign direct investment projects like Baha Mar and Albany going, citing foreign investment as a remedy for a flagging economy.
President of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, Dionisio D’Aguilar, is urging the government to "hurry up" and get the big foreign direct investment projects like Baha Mar and Albany going, citing foreign investment as a remedy for a flagging economy.
The chamber president insisted that opportunities will be created for the small businessman once the foreign investment projects being reviewed by the government get underway in a big way.
"Big projects create a lot of jobs for the small individual. Take for instance pest control. There will be a need for someone to do pest control because at the moment there are no large pest control companies in the countries," he said.
Mr. D’Aguilar explained that a lot of small projects would feed off of these large investments.
"Small businesses can take advantage of these projects and this will be good all around. These people do not just use large companies when they are developing these large projects," he said.
He said the Chamber of Commerce in its primary function would ensure that small businesses are protected.
"The primary function of the Chamber is to lobby government to ensure that the environment is ideal for the creation and development of businesses," he said. "Essentially, we want to make sure that there are few impediments to the growth of business here in this country."

D’Aguilar has a good point.
The one problem is the looming recession. Foreign investment money may soon start to dry up.
We do need to encourage Bahamians to start investing in their own economies.

I had been telling persons on this site from the PLP was in power that this is how it works and not the other way around!!
This new gov't came to office saying that they will encourage smaller motels/hotels by locals. Let's see if that will work, although I seriously doubt that because which Bahamian invest anyone of you know who will build a hotel or motel where the area is totally dead!!
Bahamians just will not do it!!!
That's why the foreign investment is so badly needed, especially in the family islands......
It is simple.. The larger investments bring in more visitors and the smaller investments feed of them helping their businesses to grow....Without the larger investments the smaller ones are doomed to fail!!!!
