Ive had a few classes in Middle Eastern politics but i am far from an expert. I've come to learn that the folks here on BI are an intelligent and well read group of people.....so please help me with some additional perspectives on whats going on in Pakistan.

Bhutto vs Musharraf....WTF.

Exactly who if anyone should concerned people be rooting for. Musharraf has suspended the constitution....pushed back elections and dismissed the supreme court in a bid to hold onto power.

This all has the effect of making Bhutto look like a true champion of democracy.....Bhutto? a champion of democracy?...that dont sound right either. Isnt she the same Bhutto who was dismissed from office along with her husband several times for massive financial fraud and corruption?

So is this what it seems? Is this some kinda set up (BBC Article) (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7087570.stm) by both Bhutto and Musharraf to get the population to stand behind one of them when it may have no reason to stand behind either.....what the hell is really going on in Pakistan?

Yeah it kinda has me miffed too.

The whole thing really starts from Musharraf's emergency rule that suspended the constitution. I admit I'm basinng things on Mushraffs'wiki page but anyways.

Notice when he did this he fired the president of the supreme court. The supreme court had ruled just a month before this that the a winner would not be declared until Musharraf's legal matter about his eligibility to be elected president was ruled upon. So i think that maybe that is the reason behind this thing, and as always he though he could run to the whole "war on terror" excuse, forgetting that he also promised the US he would not start emergency powers. Bhutto is simply riding this as a way to win the election as PM, probably get herself into the presidency later on if she could successfully protest these emergency rule and make herself look as a victim, which she is porbably successfull with now that the government took the bait and placed her on house arrest, even if it was for a few hours.

Musharraf in my opinion is screwed.

LOL.....

Musharaff want's to remain in power....the U.S. backs him "don't mind what they say on the record".....they would prefer HIM, over a week Bhutto because Bhutto, is soft and corrupt "more so than Musharraf" and she would let the terrorists run rampant in Pakistan.

So, Bhutto would allow the Taliban to escape past the border into Pakistan where they would be able to escape the net, which the Pakistani and Coalition forces have Bin-Laden and his people held up.

But, if a democratic election were to be held, Bhutto would win over Musharraf and this is what the power elite in Pakistan don't want; neither does the U.S.

The man who many Pakistani people want to come back to power is Sharif. But, he would be held accountable for his newer corruption charges; which is still fresh in the minds of the court officials and Musharraf alike. Everyone knows Bhutto is a corrupt princess. She is nothing more than a pop figure, but, they still would prefer her over Musharraf. Because, unlike Musharraf, she has not set the Pakistani military against its own people. Which Musharraf has done by sending in troops, to the Pakistani border and tribal area's, under the guise that he is trying to route out terrorist's, but, what he is simply doing is routing out opposition forces to his rule; which in the tribal area are many.

So, we have Musharraf, the least corrupt out of all of them, but, is not liked by the Muslim majority because he wants to kill a few Pakistani dissidents, who really are terrorist's when you think about it really. So, he really IS trying to do a good thing, by not allowing the corrupt and weak Bhutto to come back to an elected post and, in the same time, swooping power from another corrupt official like Sharif; who is a political intangible to this game. I say intangible because, we know Bhutto is a corruptible entity; anyone with money would do. Shariff is a Muslim idealist, who would first cater to the Muslim majority, rather than anyone else. Even though he would steal from them....

It really is a confusing issue....not so clear cut....but....I hope this gives you some contextual backdrop into the issues. Since you cared!

Small recap.
Musharraf: less liked in Pakistan than Bush.

Bhutto: more tolerable than Musharraf, even though she is the more corrupt than any official since Mobutu, she would not kill, in fact, she does not care if Muslims kill each other or not. Neither does she give a flying fig about the dissidents in the tribal areas, or about the war on terror.

Sharif: the Pakistani choice, but, the west doesn’t like him and neither does Musharraf. This is why you have not heard about him, and have been blasted with more PR about Bhutto...which is a real shame as he may bring more stability to the country than both of the former mentioned combined. At least he would not kill Muslims, nor would he allow the dissidents to control court because he would be their choice and that would bring stability. But, the dissidents, as sad as it is, are a huge majority of the so called "terrorist's"...and we is at war wit dem.

I always though it was an excuse to let Bhutto back in. A person who, with her husband has corruption as their last name in Pakistan. Did they really not think some really solid waste was about to hit the fan?

This site? This bunch could hardly use the spell check correctly, much less understand Middle Eastern Politics. Much less the politico figures in Pakistan. This bunch on BI could rarely accept the facts surrounding Bahamians politics, so don't look here for any correct advice.

Whatever!

I am but a humble, peaceful conveyor of tuck shop goods, but you are starting to get on my nerves with your editorializing.

Folks disagree with you and you get snarky. Yes, we have our share of idiots, but some our folks are quiet bright.

Eat ya' tuck shop sous and 'den move along quietly.
