Shakita 11-14-07, - 11:24 PM Oh Dear this topic kinda scares me. I will watch though!!! WinterGrace 11-18-07, - 10:55 AM That was a deep program. I felt so sad for that Indian lady and her son, brought tears to my eyes. Then in China, could you imagine them literally stripping your body when you die, no respect!!! I have to admit Lisa Ling has brought the importance of organ donation to a clearer light, we all should seriously think about organ donation, I mean after we are dead we WON"T be using them but someone else can. Have you ever thought about organ donation? Does anyone know if we have such a thing here? I would assume it would be linked to a hospital in the US. For those that missed the program. The Indian lady sold her kidney for $3,000 When it came time to pay her the "brokers" took out their fee and expenses and she was left with $700 which I don't think she has as yet. But here is the worst! Her son developed kidney failure - she has one kidney so there is nothing she can do for him. YorickBrown 11-18-07, - 11:31 AM Have you ever thought about organ donation? Nowadays with all of the hormones (in food), medications and other things people put into their bodies (or subject their bodies to), it must be getting tough to find a "clean" donor. I would think so, yes. More of a reason for healthy people to sign up. CG 11-18-07, - 11:40 AM http://www.nyodn.org/organ/o_religious.html here is a site that tells what many religions say about donations - interesting, an unusual unity here. Those cells are capable of providing the structure for the manufacture of any human body part, thereby eliminating the need for donors. A person's genetic material would be introduced into a stem cell lattice and a duplicate heart, lung, <insert other body part here> could be "grown" - One which is 100% compatible with the person who needs it. (Many donors often are on medication for the rest of their lives to prevent the rejection of the donated organ, despite blood-type match-ups). It would also eliminate the trade of organs. With such long waits for viable organs, why are governments around the world still so adamantly rejecting stem cell research/cloning? fasttract 11-18-07, - 11:57 AM I Saw A PrevieW Of This Program .i Will Be Watching Tonight After Work. CG 11-18-07, - 12:01 PM I Saw A PrevieW Of This Program .i Will Be Watching Tonight After Work. It aired on the 14th Nov but I am sure they will put it on again sometime. Stem cells seem to be a big problem with religions and some governments. Maybe it is too close to "creating life" for some people. They don't seem to have a problem with people indiscriminately "creating life", sex wise though... *grins* Cloning human body parts from genetic material of the person who actually needs it is a perfect solution. We have the intelligence and ability to perform such feats of medical science, but yet we shy away from it, claiming that we are stepping on <insert deity of choice>'s toes. As the saying goes, "the gods won't do for us what we are unwilling to do for ourselves" CG 11-18-07, - 12:17 PM They don't seem to have a problem with people indiscriminately "creating life", sex wise though... *grins* Cloning human body parts from genetic material of the person who actually needs it is a perfect solution.
