Absolutely not too young. When people are exposed to guns at a young age, and understand their power and how to handle them, they end up with a healthy respect later on in life. We wouldn't have so many gun problems if there were proper education.

I agree. I fired my first gun when I was five! (Under supervision of course.) I had guns (real ones or BB guns) most of my life. I know what they can do and what they can do to a human body!

That has no bearing on the Bahamas though as we dont have the right to bear arms as they do in the U.S.

True, but we do have the right to protect our life by any means at our disposal, even guns - if we have them. Of course we still might have to answer to the law for our actions.

True that, but wouldn't it be quicker to just grab a cutlass or bat then to go to the gun safe, unlock it, get the gun out, load the gun with bullets, then go back to the scene?

That is why I said "any means at our disposal." If it is guns, it is guns. Few people keep their guns locked up as they are supposed to but that seems to be a non-issue when one in forced to use it.

Right, but the law says they must, otherwise they are a criminal also, and a gun toting one at that. :D

Granted "most" of them will not be using it to rob or kill other people but .. law is law.

Apparently not - the farmer that shot a guy in a tree, the cop who went to his car for a gun. I also know of a few others who have used a gun in their defense - some with fatal results.

A gun must be secured when not in use. I guess when it is "in use" shooting at a bad guy being secured does not count. :)

They aren't but they should be. If everyone was armed, thugs would be less likely to break in to a house, knowing there is a good chance they are risking their lives.

Right, its the usual backward legal system we have here; they need to either enforce the law as it is, or make a new law that allows gun licenses for self defence situations.
I agree, it should but as I have said I have never, ever, ever, been asked by the authoritys, why I wanted a shotgun.

PS. the farmer and the cop were 2 totally different situations though, cop was 100% justified.

...and yet people died! One was acquitted, the other likely to be.

Lousy legal system is all .. :(

Or, or, could it be a legal system that is turning a "blind eye" to the law as written because they know people must defend themselves and the law can't help us there?

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.
