Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Elma Garraway told The Guardian yesterday that she would see to it that a promise to install security cameras at R.M. Bailey High School was honored soon.
In October, attorneys Paul Moss, John Bostwick and Neko Mosko of Jerome Pyfrom & Co., along with Keith Davies, CEO of BISX, together donated at least five surveillance cameras to the school after teachers sat in protest demanding more stringent security measures, following the physical assault of a teacher by students.
However, Permanent Secretary Garraway noted that while the ministry had promised to pay for the installation of the cameras, she could not say when they would be installed, due to the red tape involved with the process. " You cannot say how soon they will be put up, because of course quotations have to be obtained and if it is outside a certain amount, then it will have to go to the tenders board as the minister can re-approve the amount up to a little over $49,000.

.... my 2 cents ..
Get a consultant in on the job if even only just to look at the cost and go over it briefly, cause $49,000 for the installation of just 5 cameras would be insane. Notice they have the cameras already, so it is just wiring (cost varies), mounting and adjusting (average $75-$450 per camera, dependant on the type of camera and its mounting location)

and this is for one school? and a Bahamian company too Rory?

Apparently just one school (RM Bailey), good question about the company, I don't know, only going by the article, guess will wait and see.

Sounds like it hasn't one out to bid yet, and they are simply noting that they are able to spend UP TO $49k without major drama. Doesn't mean it will cost that much, but it does show that the people in charge of the money have no idea what things are worth.
