If you're looking for a Macy's sale, you can come any time during the year - they always seem to have one going on. Outside of the sale, why would you want to come here around Christmas?

New York is gorgeous at Christmastime. One of those things that you just have to do. Stick around for New Years too! Subways at 3am on New Years Day are quite interesting.

50 degrees or so today. We had snow flurrys this weekend past, although I was home making sure my stuff got home good. But back in NY till the 22nd of Dec.... all lights up .... well pretty much. Just came from the gyn off of 42nd St between Madison and Vanderbilt. But the city is abound with the pre- Xmas setups.
If anyone interested or will be in NY..... My friends are throwing a huge "going home" party for me on the 14th of Dec after living here since June 1994... it will be good... all drinks paid for and no cover charge ... which can be crazy in NY Lol...n I'm tryin to get CRX or another Bahamian DJ up to play alongside the club DJ. but Just PM me tho.....

Stay Home. New York is not the place to be on Christmas, unless your family is here otherwise New Years, but bring along someone special, New Years is what you make it and you can make it something here.

I'm a Christmastime FREAK!! I luv to see how folks go all out at that time of the year. My sister lived in New York for a few years but she always came home for Christmas. But the photos of Manhattan and especially Broadway always blew me away. The only reason I haven't done it yet is because I have to work and off course RUSH!!

One of these Christmases though I intend to be there straight through to January 3rd or 4th.

WHY?

WHY?

Well, because there is nothing extra special about New York during the winter that can’t be enjoyed during other times of the year.

During Christmas the city is overcrowded and usually very cold – every store jammed to capacity - and IMO the sales aint really no sale. The big “attractions” are also overcrowded and also IMO a big waste of time (including the Rockefeller Christmas Tree and the Thanksgiving Day parade). Somehow things always look much better on television.
Give me Junkanoo any day!

You can do Times Square and Broadway any time of year (well, just not right now because there’s a strike on). Plus the Christmas shows all tend to be kiddy shows – the adult stuff is available year round.

The only thing that is really worth doing is ice skating in Central Park, or this year there is a rink in Bryant Park.

But if you’re really interested in watching drunk people in the subway at 3:00am on New Year’s day after standing in 30degree weather for 4 hours come on up!

Lol... you need to work for the NY Tourist Board!

But everything you said is spot on.... this city getting stale as hell and overly expensive for no reason. It is more exciting to be home... and warmer..

It has a certain mystique to it. Like traveling around rural India. Wouldn't want to do it every day, but its one of things that must be experienced.
