Because slavey is wrong. Sugar 10-06-04, - 06:36 PM Because in 1865 the 13th Amendment abolished slavery. Why do you ask? CG 10-06-04, - 08:46 PM Because, economially, it became non-viable. In the long run it was cheaper to pay a pittance wage rather that provide housing, food, etc. RockWell 10-06-04, - 11:30 PM Because, economially, it became non-viable. CG 10-07-04, - 08:53 AM You have a point but I don't think that is why. Dig deep enough in all our human endeavors and you will find economics at its core. We like to think that change is precipitated by our altruistic natures but that is almost never the case. Morals, in the long run, follows the money! If you are going where I think you are going with this question, keep that in mind! :) Alien 10-07-04, - 11:55 AM Dig deep enough in all our human endeavors and you will find economics at its core. Jesus didnt preach because of corporate funding! bhuda didnt prophesize becasue he needed endorsement contributions! you forget that this world is built of humans first..... money was made by humans! Sugar 10-07-04, - 11:59 AM Vicky, Rather than go around the block with these questions, just get to the point and come out and say whatever it is you want to say. Do you think slavery is right? Do you think it shouldn't have been abolished? Are you thinking about trying to inslave someone or bring back the slave trade? Or are you just bored and trying to ruffle peoples feathers? CG 10-07-04, - 12:11 PM get real! Jesus didnt preach because of corporate funding! bhuda didnt prophesize becasue he needed endorsement contributions! Perhaps not! But can you say that it has remained so? Founders of religions often work from a true heart but all too often their followers get "off course." If you read my posting carefully, you will see that I said ALMOST. But that I mean that there are exceptions but they are few and far between. you forget that this world is built of humans first..... money was made by humans! So? Rory 10-07-04, - 05:51 PM there is still slavery in certain parts of the world, such as old soviet states, shipping them into Saudi Arabia. Its not the slavery that we are use to hearing about from the past, but more a slave trade of women and children that are kidnapped from various countries. It has been going on for years now and still continues. Joe Baboon 10-07-04, - 07:04 PM What makes slavery wrong?? Slavery? Who said anything about salvery? I thought the topic was slavey. 12play 10-08-04, - 09:00 AM My wife made an interesting assertion to me the other day wrt tithes. She said basically that the obligation to tithe should have ended when christ died on the cross just like the other obligations like animal sacrifice ended. She made the point that tithing was an act to have sins forgiven. How does your church defend the practice of titheing? What is its purpose? |
