View Full Version : High time to take an action! Please help save Bimini mangrove 12-25-07, - 04:09 AM Yeah, I know Sam Duncombe...Sam gets all news regarding Bimini Bay regularly. trubahamian 12-25-07, - 11:03 AM but my thing is, if the rest of abaco want it so, why dont yall have it- or propose to--on the mainland? was i fair to upset these guana people's way of life w/o notifying them first? as for bimini, poor is a relative word...money doesnt buy happiness...and they give away half a bimini and destroy the mangroves for 10 cents...u serious? There are major resorts on Great Abaco that are floundering,Winding Bay being one. Please,I want to be clear on this.I think Baker's Bay is a mistake, because the size of it will impact the reef. Not because of any opinions the "Guana people" may have. The Guana people, for the most part are a group of Americans on an almost all white cay, attempting to dictate economic policy to the overwhelming majority of Bahamians that want Baker's Bay to be built. They even complain when workers ride the regular ferry and have to travel across the island to work at BB. Even more than the construction of Baker's Bay.....I oppose foreignors trying to influence our economic development against the will of the Bahamians that live here.God help any Bahamians that tried to determine the outcome of a project in say.... USA! trubahamian 12-30-07, - 10:40 AM I guess our friend from the Chech-Slovak Republic got the message. Why do peeps so much like to get up in our business? I for one think that they have a need to give "an emerging nation run by black people" some help in choosing the right direction. Who is more emerging than the Chech-Slovak Republic?:dgi: round_robbin 12-30-07, - 10:56 AM If Bimini had that Casino in play, they would not have had that riot- people would be too busy, protecting the island and the integrity of the services it brings, rather than trying to tear it apart. JMO! trubahamian 12-30-07, - 11:07 AM It has been a while since I have been to Bimini, but I used to get their often fishing. At that time it was a huge stop-off point for drug importers. I mean, a community of people in the settlement in shacks, most without jobs. Then there were the young dope dealers all bedecked in their bling, speeding in and out the harbour at all hours of the day and night in their new cigarette boats.I can't imagine that these folks don't want jobs? Is anyone on this site from Bimini or have family in Bimini? I want to hear the local take on this because Bimini was one of the poorest Cays I have seen. Has that changed?:dgi: mangrove 12-30-07, - 02:14 PM I guess our friend from the Chech-Slovak Republic got the message. Why do peeps so much like to get up in our business? I for one think that they have a need to give "an emerging nation run by black people" some help in choosing the right direction. Who is more emerging than the Chech-Slovak Republic?:dgi: FYI, I The Czechoslovakia split into two countries in 1993 and I live in Slovakia (in the middle of Europe). What are you trying to say? Sorry, I probably misunderstood you. Did you want to tell that I should not care about your business? I have to disappoint you. I am not going to stop being interested in your country, especially in sustainable developments and marine conservation. Both Bimini and Guana Cay issues should be solved in a favour of environmental protection and preservation. Be aware that I am more than pleased to discuss these issues with you...just write some thoughts or questions. Bimini Islands have been in my attention since 2004, I visited Bimini 3 times and I have gained lots of information which I have wisely used to fight to save the rest of the islands. Why don't you want to look at the future of Bimini? You just can't imagine how many problems and irrecoverable damages will this development cause. Of course, Biminites want to have jobs - jobs were the biggest attraction from the side of developers who gave them many promises, talk about the project as an environmentally friendly but developers showed themselves as big liars. Most Biminites don't like the idea to destroy the whole North Sound Lagoon, mangrove habitat, they don't want mass of tourists coming to their island. I wish you could talk to Biminites as I did and became familiar with everything what's going on in Bimini. Furthermore, I heard many complaints directly from local fishermen. They used to do fishing in the areas which are already gone. It's also possible that with the increasing numbers of people can also occur illegal fishing, conch harvesting etc. The future of Fishery in Bimini will be certainly threatened by arrival of mass of commercial fishermen and guests or owners of Bimini Bay. And don't forget that the main fish nurseries will be gone, too! trubahamian 12-30-07, - 03:49 PM anyone truly interested in helping with Environmental issues needs to visit Nassau as we are one huge Environmental disaster ... those lil problems on them outislands are a joke compared to the problems Nassau is experiencing - good luck to anyone on getting them fixed though, personally I think cows will fly first. :sailing: You know it man.....I so tired of peeps telling us wat is good for us! We gat environmental problems.........every country has environmental problems! The freakin Chinese will poison one another before the bounty of their new found economy can be spent. They enjoy the most polluted environment on earth, period! Eastern Europe was a hazmat dump for the Russians for 50 years. The US has cleaned up substantially but has a way to go and all these ninnys are worried about our reefs.Somehow, amidst all our ignorance and silly third world ways, the Bahamas is still mostly pristine I speak for most Bahamians on this: LEAVE BAHAMIAN DECISIONS TO BAHAMIANS! We are not your children nor your wards........F-off!:realmad: mangrove 01-06-08, - 11:02 AM Can anybody here give me the contacts on persons from the Bahamian government who are in charge of decisions in regards of new developemnts in the country. Recently, I've heard about the mangrove destruction in Bimini. However, this time developers are removing mangroves in the South Bimini and I'd like to know what's going on there and why. babychase1 01-06-08, - 11:59 AM Can anybody here give me the contacts on persons from the Bahamian government who are in charge of decisions in regards of new developemnts in the country. Recently, I've heard about the mangrove destruction in Bimini. However, this time developers are removing mangroves in the South Bimini and I'd like to know what's going on there and why. Talk to the Prime Minister...he might be able to help ya! mangrove 01-06-08, - 12:11 PM To be honest I haven't contacted Mr. Ingraham yet but I think he won't be helpful at all. Moreover, I doubt he would be able to reply. Although, I can't compare him with your former PM Christie who has fully ignored me and others, I don't think that something would change if I contact him. I am truly disgusted by Bahamian government! adidasboi987 01-06-08, - 12:13 PM By your own admission...you haven't contacted him...so perhaps you should reserve comment until you do...in this "fight" you must remain optimistic and if unnecessary, exhaust all avenues... mangrove 01-06-08, - 12:22 PM Well, I am going to write to current PM since I really want to know what's his attitude etc. but I am realistic and although I wish so much Mr. Ingraham was more willing in communication than Mr.Christie I think I can't expect anything from him. Mr. Ingraham is well informed about everything what's going on in Bimini, we even include him in our e-mail list and send him updates about Bimini Bay etc. but there hasn't been any reply yet. wide eye 01-17-08, - 02:45 PM This guy who is building the resort has gotten away with murder on an environmental scale! He has turned a quaint village into little Miami and the Bahamas will suffer for his carnage in years to come. It is sad that our leaders are so shortsighted and greedy for $$, spineless theiving scum, the lot of them! Tell me how many BAHAMIANS where involved in the construction of this environmental disaster? Mexico benifited more that the Bahamas in constructiong this monstrsity than the Bahamas did! trubahamian 01-17-08, - 03:10 PM You may be absolutely correct, but once again I ask. What do the Bahamian peeps of Bimini want? Our problem here in Abaco is very similar, but the truth is Most Abaconions want the development. None of the small Bahamian resort owners of Guana or the Guana American homeowners want it. At that point it is not a right or wrong issue,it is a Bahamian issue. The majority rules. The Point 01-17-08, - 11:32 PM Frankly, Guana Cay is a 'slap in the face' of Bahamians... reminds me more of hick town in Tennessee :( Biminites are NOT happy with that development! I have much family there. Thing with Bimini, the drug culture do them right in! Now, what u find is that by & large there's a "no fear of jail" among most of them because so many have bin dere/don' that for drug related penalty. It's a werry poor place to have chirren/law abiding ppl; but, one good side is they've had major events that's caused them to lean more heavily on God.... a sad sad mix up conch salady situation! |
