I remember well getting ready for college. I started preparing in 9th grade because I was ready to go! LOL

How does the average Bahamian kid prepare for college?

Who helps with all the paperwork, applications and financial aid?

Is it just "hit or miss" during senior year with most planning to go abroad?

Curious....

to be honest i have no clue. i can only speak of what i know other did. for most i know college wasnt on their minds until 11 or 12 grade. for most three options come to mind.

school in the states, school in canada, or COB.

they usually start looking into how to get into schools in those countries which lead them to taking extra exams out side of the BGSE.

recently now the new trend is to go to school in jamaica, cuba, and other carribean islands cause its cheaper thena the other options.

u started preparing in 9th grade!? in 9th grade i was still playful.

Don’t they have counselors in high schools here that help kids find info on Colleges?

Don’t they have counselors in high schools here that help kids find info on Colleges?

I've tried to get the answer to that question from my 17year old daughter and never got a straight answer. When I transferred my kids "then 15 and 8" from the Abaco school system to our local CT. school system,I enrolled them myself. In the guidance Counselor's office transcript in hand,I began to realize, what a horrible education my teenager had been getting. After I told the Counselor I wanted her in a college prep, program, she was put back a grade and required to take two math courses that year. One short year and a half later, she and my little one "she was put back a year as well" are both honor students. Pappy and Mummy are proud indeed!
The thing is,when I entered grade nine,it was mandatory to meet with a guidance counselor and and decide if you were to be in General studies,Vocational Studies or a College Preparatory Studies Program. Your curriculum was then planned as such. But then again.....this isn't 1962.:)

More responses?

If you have kids or nieces or nephews or little cousins, what was the application experience like for them coming form the Bahamas?

Did they get into the college they wanted or did they pick the first one?
