Some friends came to the door. I let them in and as we were greeting a guy walked in. It was someone I did not know. He came right in, some fifteen feet into my hall. It was clear that he was much the worse for drink, or maybe drugs. My friends retreated in fear to the other end of the hall.

“Can I help you?” I asked in a calm voice.
“I got millions in money.” he volunteered.
“How nice!” I replied. “Can you step outside?” I place my left hand on his right shoulder and my right behind his left shoulder and turned him towards the door. Thankfully, he complied. Had he not my hands were place so that the left hand could come up to his chin, the right would have grabbed his back hair - a quick twist would have broken his neck.

He stood out side. My body was half covered by the door jam and my right hand reached for a short, razor shape cutlass I keep behind the hall chair near the door. I did not let him see the cutlass, it was hidden by the wall. “Now.” I repeated “What can I do for you?”

“You got money?” He asked.
“No, why do you ask?”
His hand moved slowly to his pocket. “Don’t do that.” I said as I motioned to his pocket. He withdrew his hand. I had resolved that if the hand had come back with a weapon I would have cut his arm off! I had the weapon to do it and the skill to do it - and the resolve to do it!

It was then I notice his partner in their car. He started to get out! “Stay right their.” I said in a calm voice. He retreated back into the car.

I brought my attention back to the guy at the door step. “GIVE ME MONEY!” He demanded!
“No.” I said. “Have you tried working for it?”
“You would give me a job?” he asked.
“Not in a million years! I responded. “ Now go away.”
He took a step forward. I pointed at him and said “Not a step forward!” Remember all this time he had not seen the cutlass. He was thwarted, not by a weapon but by the calmness, and authority, of my voice. (It takes training to do that!)

I tell you this story, not to show how good I was but how careless I was not to have locked the door after my guests had entered. It is also a warning to you all. Be careful, very careful. In a careless moment a disaster can happen in a blink of an eye! Had things turned bad, someone would be have been hurt.

He staggered down the driveway and got in the car. They stopped at the gate, got out and looked at the house! I kept looking at them. They got back in the car and left! I reported the matter to the police, along with the number of their car. I have not heard back from them - police or the “millionaire.” lol. :)

Probably just random drunks looking for a handout CG. But never the less, be careful.

Most likely, but I was careless! Will not do that again! Cutting a guys arm off makes a mess of the front step! Lol! Not to mention the ups and downs of the legal system! :)

Yeah. Well I have been through enough that being careful became more of a habit for me.

Me too. But a careless moment is a careless moment! It can happen to the best of us.

Of course. In that case create a backup plan like auto locking for your doors.

Initially I thought the someone "close to death" was U CG! Serious non-sense up in here! Glad to hear of the way you handled it --- we all need lessons!! Great job.

My 80+ yr. old father had 2 bold robbers enter his home few wks. back. He was alone! His yrs. as a Police helped and he emerged unscathed despite the fact that 1 of the men tried to pin him to the floor, his dogs were tied, the other robber (woulda be:) ) was trying to find the $$$.... they ended up with nothing for their efforts ... btw, he's still waiting to hear from the police?

Quick thinking and good going. Safety is key, no doubt.

Maybe its time to invest in a 12 guage pistol grip pump.
