as long as it can be proven to be self defense and the murderer was unable to escape without killing the victim they should should be given a reduced sentence.
Let me say this and see what you say.
You have a knif at my childs throat I have a gun. Know that by the time I take aim, you have not droped the knif you gonna die in the next sec or 2.
How should the law deal with me.
as long as overkill is involved or pre-meditation it should be considered murder.

violent crimes where persons are shot or stabbed repeatedly, while detaining the victim is definitely murder.

The death penalty certainly stops further crime by the person being put to death, whether it deters or not.

I still don't favor the death penalty, and would only agree to it in cases where the victim was tortured to death or purposely prolonged the process.
If it was a fight and the other person was stabbed or shot a few times that could be from the heat of passion and/or pure fear, they may *really* not have intended to kill the person.

I think society should focus on rehabilitation and support for every criminal that is released, and hold whoever begged for their release responsible for their subsequent criminal activities.

persons that kill and are released and kill again, should definitly be snuffed out.

What do you mean you need a 100% guarantee that the accused is guilty? If they are proven guilty it is done so beyond a reasonable doubt! What you have to understand that not everyone is perfect, especially when the life of another man is in their hands. Yes I will admit that when the life of someone is on the line we must make it our soul responsibility to give a 100% in attempting to prove whether or not someone is guilty or innocent. Just think about this, people who were guilty have also gotten off with a clean slate. OJ Simpson is still a debatable topic!!!! So this street goes both ways.

That was my clumsy way of saying that I do not support the death penalty as is administrated now. As for "reasonable doubt." When one is dealing with a human life, reasonable doubt does not seem reasonable enough for me.

Your mention of O.J shows me that those who win in court have good lawyers on their side and not necessarily the truth on their side. Many of those who "swing" for their crimes have court appointed lawyers who often do not have their heart, not to mention their wallets, in the case.

I do believe that punishment should be used as a deterrent.
You get caught with an illegal firearm life no parole none. The door should be welded shut you go in to dye. The public should be able to see you. There is only 1 reason to have an illegal firearm. You have it to do harm with it.

Unless some one can provide another reason to be in possession of an illegal firearm.

I'm ignorant as to how permits work...Collector of vintage pistols and guns still in good firing condition? Or would you be required to obtain licenses/permits for each one before you even received the gun?

It has been a while sense I got my guns but unless things have changed, permits work like this.

Hand guns are out! You can't get one except for some extreme conditions.(In order for a gun to be an antique it has to be 100 year or older. Even then permits are required.) Full automatic guns are out (the kind where you hold the trigger down and it keeps firing.)

When one buys a gun one has to take all the info about it to the Fire Arm's Office. Also one has to prove that one has a lock-able Gun Safe where the gun can be secured. They check you out (that takes time.) If you are approved, you can then get your gun. (Shotguns or Rifles only)

Cost per year to renew your licence $50.00 for each shotgun. $250.00 for each rifle.

So, you can't just have a gun bag and a trigger lock? The safe is mandatory?

FOR A RIFLE?!!

I thought rifle was $100.00 and hand gun $250. Only rifle you can get a license for is .22 only the commissioner can give permission for you to get a handgun or a higher cal. rifle
I had a rifle and I was a crack shot at 20 yds (more or less guess less) regular barrel sit I could put a bullet in the o on a coke can. Can't see so well anymore.
I used to do that with my BB gun on Coke bottles as a kid.

Also, gun licences in the Bahamas are only for one thing, Pigeon Shooting, last time I checked. So like everything here, its just one big lie.

So did I.
Anyway, who needs a cross bow? But I would like BB guns again. They were fun!

Well if paintball guns are legal, one would think BB guns should be legal, but then again some of them look too much like "real" (for lack of a better word) pistols that they might cause problems....

This is very off topic and I don't want to changes this one. But this is an open question for Yk2bad.
When you do research and come to conclusions they are facts. But when other people do research and come to conclusions and call them facts. You don't accepts these other peoples facts as facts. Then you oppose them with a belief not fact. I don't understand how you can do this please explain

yes very off topic..."why am i always missing these jabs??" :bigmouth:
anyways...i dont know what you are talking about anyways....and if it from another topic, please dont confuse me@!!
we are talking about the death penalty, and the effects surrounding the death penalty.
causes and effects that are not only more than just suggested, or supported by one variable, they are analyzed by real time hard data and conclusions.
not something that only represents one aspect of a phenomena, and attempts to debunk other theories via "say so".

there is a big difference between, conjecture and what we think and feel is right, and the actual reality of the situation.
saying you beleive is a big difference between knowing the truth!

and quite frankly, i beleive what i see for myself, over what i get from people who would like to tell me what they feel it should be.
sorry if it gets you frustrated!
;)
