I always thought that ZNS was doing a wonderful job. In order to aire Bahamian programs there needs to be sponsors. If you want to see more Bahamian shows just pay for it....

one word - Penzat :-)

But seriously, they could be having 24 hour native shows, tours of the island/s, Fishing Shows, Snorkeling, etc etc, and be puting it out on FTA Sat for all the world to see ...

am not suggesting that anyone diss zns , am just offering suggestions on how they can make programming more apealing.

(1) send a camera man to islands like acklins and crooked island e.t.c. do a documentary. so people in Nassau and other places can see how they are living....because some people think they are behind the eight ball. this can be a form of education.

(2)air town meetings in its entirety.......for example meetings in south andros, that was used only for 20 second news segments.

(3)air tapings of regattas so as to get bahamian people to contribute to domestic tourism

(4)do documentary on present and former prime ministers while they are alive.

just to name a few, instead of putting away the tapes in the library for dust to gather.......and wasting money on stories just for news segments i am sure there are persons who are intrested i seeing these tapes. :dancer: instead of broadcasting stuff from mbc that no one is intrested in.

hats off to rev T.G Morrison on his twice monthly Sunday services.......Because i don't see why or national tv station on sundays are showing old cowboy movies at 11:00am and yet we call our selves a christian nation.

If you feeling me holla back let me hear you.

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. Before Cable Bahamas came along there were many media production houses. Who remembers TMC? There are a few left behind that survived but they had to diversify or supplement their services to stay alive hoping for good old times to return.

When cable came along it kicked these media houses out of business, some of them did as many as two or three local large and small business commercials a day, ZNS even contracted some of the work to these media house and things were great then.

“That was then, but this is now”, and what ZNS can do is to get more competitive, it never had much of a spirit but surely it can find a spirit to get in and bring us all back home to the point where we didn’t have a choice now that we have a choice. There is no point in ZNS showing international and US programs we have cable, dss, pansat and all sorts of broadcasting systems that tune us into the world, but what we do not have is a TV station dedicated to what’s happening in our country. We do have many talented individuals who are trained and are ready and willing to improve the quality of the sound and picture, lighting, filters, animations, graphic effects, etc to give that international look, I am one of these individuals and I know a few other “key grippers” who will be delighted if called on.

Yes I agree that it can get involve in local programming this is a great idea. If it does not have the huge finances then yes use the time that it travels to the family islands to make documentaries, it really does not have to be highly researched stuff. ZNS have program directors that can in advance put together ideas and scripts and this can be prearrange as their crew travel to the family islands with officials. While there they can quickly interview mother so and so, farmer so and so, from Freeport to Inagua salt industry and donkey stew, so forth and so on and so on. Or ZNS can contract out the work or bid the work in small portions and at a low cost to those small surviving media houses.

Right, but who watches ZNS? I do not; really I don’t watch ZNS, only pieces of the news, other than this nothing at all. But this can change and as it is now this does not stop me from being concern and I do wonder at times what if there is an emergency, like a tidal wave, a tsunami, a tornado or storm developing in our harbor. I stood at Coral Key several years ago and watched a huge water spout developed just a few hundred yards away from where I stood, it didn’t move, but it lasted for about 3 or 5 minutes before it was over) and it really call for emergency evacuation of certain areas. Even though our island is small we do not have a siren system or some kind of public warning system (other than radio and most of us are not tuned in to the radio at most times, especially our youths), correct me if I am wrong, and I can never remember there being any emergency drills incase there were some emergency. In this case ZNS would serve a very vital and important aspect to warn us of any danger, what ever the danger might be.

We may not like ZNS but it has its usefulness and I think we ought to and can make better use of it.

They should show more Hugh Campbell, GSSA sports, BAISS sports, or air some more of the local stuff going on around.

Yeah, donkey stew, I really don’t know how true it is but while I was attending a wedding in Inagua they claimed that they were serving donkey meat as one of the main dishes, I didn’t see it because I was busy working the wedding, but I didn’t think they serve it to me, I didn’t ask for it. When I returned to Nassau it was one of the first questions that I was asked “did you try the donkey meat? I responded, you must be kidding, right? But I understand it is really good, known to most of us as one of “the best kept secret in the Bahamas.” ZNS can check this out.

We need some Real Local News Stations ...24/7

Yeah, I agree a local station that can hold our attention, a station where we find it hard to stay away like Bahamasissues.com

I haven't watched ZNS for at least 7 years, unless there is something really, really, important coming on the news.

I personally wouldn't wish ZNS on the criminals in jail. :bored:

i second that responce only becuase ZNS has put so many bahamians in this mood. y would i want to be bored to death. someone said well what we use to watch before satelite and all that stuff but before all that stuff ZNS use to be good, they were actually good. i agree they need to get creative and air more bahamian shows, has anyone on here ever watched a channel out of mexico? as poor as mexico is they have like 6 local mexican soap opera's. how about a bahamian soap!!??? i know i would watch. how about documentaries on our social problems, how about a bahamian talk show like dr, phil, operah, muary?. some one said that it takes money of course it does and the reason why they dont have sponsers is becuase no one watches the channel as it is now, so ZNS needs to invest some money and revamp the channel to get people tuned in again and then the sponsers will come.

some one said why they dont air the whole town meetings instead of just using them for news clips, i think ZNS actually doesnt tape the entire meeting. they only tape bits and pieces, so there is no entire meeting to air, and then slack off for the rest of the day.

great topic and great ideas(responses)you guys are on the money,i watch ZNS news and local events only,i would watch ZNS if more archive-footage,local Bahamian personalities and "Bahamian soap operas" was being aired,ZNS holds exclusivity in the Bahamas where local news and events are concerned,it seem fitting 4 them 2 build new strategies geared around that exclusivity("Local Bahamian programming")it is imperative 2 have a timeline from whence we came as well as present-day strides,we can't blame-it all on ZNS,maybe if we call their program manager in droves,we have 2 support the kind of programming we want aired as well.
