Hammerhead 01-21-08, - 05:38 PM I thought that Dr. McMillan was convicted and spent time in prison so I'm
trying to figure out how come his body was laying up in the House of Assembly:dgi:
BAHMIA 01-21-08, - 05:39 PM He was a PLP, right? (McMillian, not the poster-carrying fool)
reason 01-21-08, - 05:45 PM He was a member of the first majority rule cabinet in 1967, Minister of Communications.
He was one of the dissident eight who went on to form the Free PLP and eventually the FNM. He was the first Secretary General of the FNM. He lost his seat in 1972 and never got back into frontline politics.

He made history when him and 7 others left the PLP decades ago and later formed the FREEPLP!!
Brotherman/sisterern go check your facts again.
AND.............if, IF he commited any crime, he was STILL a former cabinet minister and entitled to be laid out in the House of Assembly!!.........SMT DEAD LOUD!!

That what's we get when we DON'T MAKE PROPER RECORDS OF OUR BAHAMIAN HISTORY!
People don't know who is who and what is what!
With more and more of our people being schooled abroad, it makes it more imperative to have a detailed and easily available archive of who we are as a people!

It is time for Bahamians and others interested parties to work forward to start a real and complete up to date un-biased History of The Bahamas.
it would be a major undertaking and possibly need funding from the private sector as well as Government. Actually a set like encyclopedias due to the illustrations and inserted documentation that would be included.
Personally, I would love to be part of the team to put this together.

I heard this story too. Is it the same person? I know about the political history, dissident 8 and all but HI made reference to a 'fall'. i am assuming a fall from grace.

He spent two years in prison for trafficing cocaine - was caught with it strapped to his waist. This happened during his tenure as a cabinet minister.
Now some ppl felt he should be laid out while others felt he shouldn't. I don't have an opinion!
~*Lovely*~ 01-21-08, - 09:58 PM I couldn't care much less about who is laid out in in HOA or not because the HOA is just a place. I don't see it as some special place. If I were one of those people who saw it as some great place, I would probably take issue with him being laid out there, given the info in this thread.
I went to high school in The Bahamas, and we had to do social studies (combination of history and geography) from 7th to 9th grade. After that, history was an elective and I took it. I have NEVER heard this man's name. The curriculum simply isn't being updated.
