Woodside Wins Pinewood by 49
Published: Monday January 21st, 2008

The final count of ballots once the 110 contested ballots were removed showed FNM candidate Byran Woodside to be the final winner of the Pinewood seat.

Allyson Maynard-Gibson's quest to return Pinewood to the PLP fold failed on the final count but PLPs throughout the country need not hang their head in shame. We were able to spotlight for the entire country a broken and corrupt system of elections that benefited the dishonest practice endorsed by a few.

Through her challenge, Mrs. Maynard-Gibson and her legal team were able to expose the vulnerability of a voting system that was taken advantage of by persons who willingly or unwillingly, voted where they ought not to have voted. This case exposed the practice of selling voters cards and more importantly, it exposed a system that offers little in the way of correcting these breaches.

Our focus must now shift to Marco City and the projected issues that will be revealed in that case. We must not let this disappointment diminish our resolve for justice. Something good has come of this case and we must not lose sight of that. The FNM has won again, but in winning, this places a greater burden on them to perform. We have seen in eight months their inability to deliver on promises made or to expand on programs left by the PLP. Our challenge will now be to not allow their incompetence to adversely affect the hopes and dreams of Bahamians any more than it already has.
We will hold our heads high tomorrow and everyday after because our party is built on a sense of pride and the strength of character that cannot be stripped away by an election loss. We won the challenge but we lost the count and in that, there is no shame.

We congratulate Mr. Woodside on his victory and we promise him that as before, we will be working very hard in Pinewood to return a PLP candidate as the MP whenever elections are called. This chapter is closed and now we move on.

Are they forgetting that the Parliamentary Registrar's Dept was within Allyson's Portfolio as Attorney General. In essence she had five years to look into the electoral process and try to reform it.

She is joking right? Any dummy could have seen that could happen without waiting for it to happen then waste money taking another party to court over it. It was even discussed on this same forum before the election (search), how easy it was to vote in another area because of how slack things are here in the Bahamas, basically.

I really see now, not that I didn't before, what kg was talking about in his second response to mr. christie. The first thing is that all of the candidates played by the same rules, as shown in this process some of their people also voted in pinewood illegally. They were the beneficiaries of the same process. The second thing is that, they were in charge for five years, they had an opportunity to fix whatever needed to be fixed, and further these people were the same people that served and ran the system in 2002 when they won. The third point is, not only were they in charge the person that is at the middle of this issue had direct responsibility for the office charged with overseeing the process. Like I said in prior threads; with the PLP, as long as it benefits them it's ok, when it works against them they cry foul! There is no point in this, and there is no point being proved by this. The only motive mr. christie has is to get back in power, he wants power again and that is what he is motivated by, It doesnt have a fly fluke to do with exposing anything!
KEEP THE PLP OUT; OUT, OUT AND STAY OUT!

I think the Parliamentary Commission was in the portfolio of Hon. C. Pratt former Minister of National security.

Yeah. AMG was responsible for the Registrar General, not the Election Registy.

She ever get that computer system set up at the RG office? The one what was supposed to be able to search deeds and stuff without having to pull out 2 tons of index cards?
