FNM
Was the government in 1992 & 1997
Had some of its longest serving MPS quit them while in opposition
Thought they were going to win the 2002 elections sucessfully
Lost misberably only gaining 7 seats out the 7 they captured just one in New Providence (nobody needs any gce to figure which consistuency that was)
Went to election court got served another blow when the seat was offically declared the PLP seat.
At this point the party was in a slump but what they did do?? regain focus, organized themselves, brough back ex pm now current pm, and put forth an agenda which captured the interest of bahamians which brings me to .......
PLP

Was the government for 25 years before losing horribly to the FNM in 1992 &1997
They regain focus, organize themselves, elected a new leader and came back with an agenda that captured the interest of bahamians winning the 2002 elections with a landslide (can't quite remember how many seats they won)
Made history as the first government to serve one term that was under the leadership of Perry Christie(in essence they served 30 years 25+5)
They got a blow when they had one of their MP leave them while in opposition
and another blow when they took a case to court and loss

tell me this ain't deja vu'??????

It is interesting that there is no mentions that the Progressive Liberal Party had a sitting Member of Parliament leave their ranks while in Government. Not only did he leave his party but he opted to join the sitting opposition. Can we ever forget Edison Key?

Hubert, on the other hand, wasted no time in firing Members within in his FNM Government whom he thought had overstepped their boundaries or caused him and his Government to be embarrassed. These disgruntled fellows left one of them dared to cling to his affiliation with the Free National Movement. Can we ever forget Algernon Allen, Tennyson Wells or Pierre Dupuch?

I do not recall the FNM having a sitting Member of Parliament leave their party during the five years (2002-07) out of office. Nine (9) months into the PLP's self-imposed (election screwup) exile a sitting Member of Parliament has left their ranks. Can we ever forget Kenyetta Gibson?

What is deja vu (if this is the appropriate term) is that Johnley Ferguson, a candidate of the then Opposition (FNM), took his case to election court in 2002 and lost, and now Allison Maynard-Gibson, a candidate of the now Opposition (PLP), has taken her case to the election court and lost. What goes around comes around!

The difference is leadership. The FNM had someone strong amongst them who they could fall back on, the PLP strong former PM is dead, Pindling. So who will emerge as the strong leader from the PLP to help them rebuild. That is why a leader needs to be strong and not a people pleaser, when the tough decisions needs to be made, you will have someone who can do it.

Everything rise and fall on leadership, unfortunately this is what the PLP is suffering from good leadership. And furthermore, there is no more Hirachi and Others....money to help them with lavish campaign against the FNM, you scratch my back, I scracth yours. I think after people see what happened to Hirachi and Others for playing with the PLP, they don't want to get burn like them.
Hubert Ingraham is a leader, that is why the FNM rebuilt sucessfully.
