FACTS ONLY 01-26-08, - 03:50 PM Thats what the grandmother thinks the REAL REASON is. She said she was told the last time a "coloured" girl entered the pageant, THE WHOLE ISLAND WAS UPSET!!
However, the Chief Councillor Abner Pinder said the idea that the young girl was exculed because of race IS ABSURD!! He said the young girl was exculed because she is NOT a resident of Spanish Wells.
The grandmother confirms that the child was born in Nassau, but lives in Spanish Wells and goes to the island's All Age School.

I believe the grandmother...her story seems more credible.
nationbuilder 01-26-08, - 04:43 PM Oh boy..Spanish Wells...been there...didnt like it...
LotusPhoenix 01-26-08, - 04:53 PM Why are these racist communities allowed to be here in the 21st century????
She LIVES in Spanish Wells, Damnit she from Spanish Wells. Had she been a blonde blue eyed Nassau born resident she'd be in...and married at 12.

I'll say.
canesfins 01-26-08, - 05:17 PM Wow, some of you are so predjudiced in your own way. Have any of you been to SW in the last 5 years? I seriously doubt it. It is a completely different community. I will find out the true story and let you know, but please dont be biggots when you dont know what you are talking about.

Yes, been there just last year several times. Now what were you saying again about not knowing what one is talking about?

How is it different? I know your avatar is a picture of SW. Do you live there?
gullyrock 01-26-08, - 05:49 PM I saw this story on the news last night. Mr. Abner Pinder not only denied the accusation of racism, but said that other black (he did not say colored) girls had participated in previous pagents..in fact it was won by a little black girl in 2003. I agree with canesfins that there is probably more to this story. Because SW has always had a majority of white Bahamians it will be easy to assume that their actions can be racist. But be fair and think about this...How easy do you think it would be for a blonde Bahamian girl to enter say a Little Miss Grants Town Pagent??? There will probably be all sorts of excuses made..As long as we live, situations like this will probably exist. Unfortunate, but true!
I have been to SW and find that it is a very clean, prosperous, independent community...but I wouldn't want to live there...and they wouldn't want to live here..We are all used to "our" ways of life...We don't even have beauty pagents on Gully Rock...I wonder if thats because we don't have any beauties!!!!!!I need to check into that!!!

Ya man...dey different like the people from Man o War different here. Small gene pool!lol:)

I believe the grandmother as well.
If the girl goes to the local All-age school, wouldn't that make her a resident?
Sounds like somebody is running games.
*suck teeth at this nonsense* :gi:

Little Miss SW is not a school pagent as far as I know. She likely lives on Eleuthera and goes to the all age school. This would disqualify her from participating in the pagent, assuming its unrelated to the school. Like I said, I will find out the true story and let all here know, but I think its unfair to assume automatically that it is because she is black that she was not permitted to enter.

If a little Blond hair, blue eyed girl lived in Grant'sTown and wanted to enter the Little Miss pagent, we would stare, but Bahamian with there general affection of all things "Fair" would let her in.
I ga wait fa da rest a da news outta Spanish Wells for I comment furder.
