Two Men Held On Drug Charges After Boat Intercepted

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Two Bahamian nationals are being held on drug charges after a boat named the "Black Widow" was stopped by U.S. Coast Guard last Friday.
Authorities said Thomas Cash and Valdez Edgecombe were arrested after 2,000 pounds of marijuana and nine kilograms of cocaine were allegedly found filling the cabin of the 1982 31-foot Tiara vessel, approximately two miles off the coast of Port Everglades. The boat was brought into the Fort Lauderdale Coast Guard station, where the men were taken into custody.
Cash and Edgecombe are charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, conspiracy to import into the United States cocaine and marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, and importation of cocaine and marijuana into the United States, according to R. Alexander Acosta, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida.
If convicted, the men face life in prison.
