Eulamae Johnson 78, has become the second Bahamian to be laid OUT of the coffin after death, in a setting that gave the impression she was taking an afternoon rest, rather than being displayed in a funeral home.

Friends and family were present when The Tribune visited the Rock of Ages Funeral Home on Wulff Rd yesterday.

The family did not suggest that, Mrs Cox, who is a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Services, said, I asked them, I said, your mum is a very special person to me and I think I would like to do something meaningful that I think you all will be pleased with. The family told her " GO FOR IT!!"

Mrs Johnson was buried this morning.

I guess because peeps are dying soooo young all sorts of rituals are now taking place. I was visiting a friend last Saturday who lives 2 corners away from Woodlawn. For about a good 10 minutes car horns were blowing NON STOP!! IN THE GRAVE YARD!! NON STOP!!

I was like watsdat!! She say its the latest thing to do now. And.. some fellas bring the liquor into the graveyard, have a drink :friday: then spill some for the departed. RIGHT THERE IN THE GRAVEYARD!!

Then at the jungalist funerals, the young biddys does do the "billy bunks"(sp) or "superman" while the band licking off the gospel music!!:what:

LOL. Woooow.
Hey, to each his own. If they love it, good for them. I just don't have the stomach to view a dead body outside of a coffin. That would be too creepy for me.

Like my grandmother says... "monkey see, monkey do". Well we forum members called it way back when Harl died. We said it would become a trend and now here we go. But, I don't get it, the article said she was laid out like she was having a afternoon rest, how exactly was that? was she propped up on a day-bed or sitting on a sofa or what? someone explain please or a pic would be even better if any of those are circulating online. also, doesn't it seem like funeral directors are way too bold and involved these days? The same thing happend with Harl right, the director was "inspired" and decided to dream up some creative idea?I know in my time of grief the last thing I would want is some creepy, over-zealous little funeral director with way too much time on his hands calling me talking about, "hey I have a great idea..can I dress the corpse up like a ballerina?" Oh hellllllllll no.

When you think of it, what is so reverent about a dead body? It is just 150 pounds (more or less) of spoiling meat! The essence, the spirit of the person has moved on and discarded the body as one might discard a worn out old shirt.

Have mercy! These people just do as they like whenever they like. There are no rules of order.

The billy bunks? I'm not even sure I want to know what that is. The only thing that comes to mind is the willy bounce.

All that I'm waiting for is a person with way too much money on their hands (and too much time) to fake their own death and come jumping out of their casket in the middle of their funeral service - All just to get in the news.

I'll put $50 down on someone doing this within the next year or two. Any takers?
