Man Charged After Robbery Spree
By Kendea Jones
A 19-year-old male, who allegedly went on a robbing spree in eastern New Providence between October and December last year, was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison Tuesday.
Although he pleaded not guilty to the charges, the young man also admitted in court that he did commit the crimes.
Police believe Chivario Rolle of Pyform Addition broke into 18 homes and stole valuable items.
Some residents of eastern New Providence have long complained about house breakings.
Police officials revealed this week that 1,965 house breakings were reported in New Providence in 2007.
Rolle was also charged with 14 counts of stealing while being concerned with others.
It is alleged that he robbed houses in Elizabeth Estates, Fox Hill, Colony Village, Yamacraw, St. Vincent Avenue and Sea Breeze.
The hauls ranged from electronics to jewelry, according to police.
Rolle is accused of stealing laptops, cell phones, watches, stereos and even washing products.
During the arraignment, Rolle pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
After the charges were read to him, the prosecutor objected to bail, arguing that he was already out on bail when he committed the crimes. The prosecutor also said that it is likely that Rolle would try to establish contact with witnesses set to testify against him.
At this point Rolle, who was not represented by an attorney, promised Magistrate Susan Sylvester that he would not contact anyone.
He said he only committed the crimes because he had recently become a new father.
Magistrate Sylvester urged him to rethink his comment clearly.
She remanded him to prison until April 29.
